Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

Default Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project (OACDP)

Was searching for early VW information resource when I came across this. Thought I should share. Its an inspiring effort on documenting the obsolete/hard to find VW-research data online:

    Default VW Sighting!!!

Another bug in town Unearthed. Was going for some chore an hour ago, when I came across this parked inside a workshop just beside the Multan residence of PM Gillani, getting some body job done and is due to receive a two tone paint as disclosed by the panel beater working on her. Pictures speak for her to show what condition she really is in. Its a 1970 RHD Deluxe with lots of molestation and rottening:

A question for the VW Club:
Gentlemen I am currently in the process of restoring my classic in Karachi, I need to re-chrome the bumpers, and some trim around the body,
I have spoken to a lot of people and everyone has been discouraging saying that the local chrome quality is poor and does not last very long at all,
I am therefore seeking your inputs on this, could you please comment on the quality of local chrome and kindly suggest the best place where I can get this done from in Karachi,
    awaiting your feeback and comments,
    Regards,
    Faraz.

    @farazarif

Which vintage are you restoring these days? If its a VW, you must know that VW chrome parts were plated in three layers. This was done in order to ensure long lasting chrome finish on the chrome parts. So if the vintage you are restoring is a VW, worry not and just take the chrome parts to any of the guys who have the buffing facility. A gentle buff and the layer would become all new chrome again.

And even if its not a VW, you can try the same too, as who knows your car manufacturer used the same technique of three layers for lasting chrome finish to compete chrome finish of competitors (VW in this case).

Please avoid getting the parts re-chromed as much as possible, if you must, ask your chrome guy to do "BRIGHT" instead of "NICKLE/CHROME". Local BRIGHT is known to last longer than the local CHROME.

    @ Reezwan

    What is "BRIGHT"?
A car for the people, an affordable Volkswagen, would bring great joy to the masses and the problems of building such a car must be faced with courage.

Pretty similar to chrome but a superior quality with a thick coating. If I must choose to get anything chromed, I prefer BRIGHT but still I wont "recomnend" re-chroming in the first place.

Many a times, the thought has crossed my mind that I should take any small OG VW Chrome Part to a lab and get it tested for the chemistry & ingredients but I could not since I was not sure if the labs here in Multan could have the ability to analyse it precisely.

If someone knows about any such hi-tech lab, I would be willing to lend a part to get the chrome analysed that was manufactured/chromed by VW. So that we might be able to know precisely what were the ingredients and their ratios. Then we can be benefited by the discovery by getting our parts chromed using the same ratio of the ingredients at any local chrome werks.

it CAN work, but it'll not do a very good job. i'm running it in my 1303 and in all honesty my car is on the border of running too hot. luckily my trips are usually short.

besdt to stick with the current "dog house" style one. it's ok to use this one to get he car on the road but eventually you should switch back.

DO NOT give these parts to the mechanic as they are ultra rare,.. i've been searching for 3 years for a doghouse in PK. now i'll be importing one from the UK.

local chrome IS useless, you're better off getting the bumpers painted at least the finish will last longer and can be matched in case the part is hit.
