Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

Is this your car? Is it a project? Is it for sale?

It appears to be a very restorable car with original interior. tell us more.

Very potent early bug. Love it!

I hope she is in good hands and remains so for decades to come because you dont get second chances with such vintages.

    Default Slamming/Lowering/Adjustable Front Beam

The following post was originally posted by me in @rebel's Deosai Trip thread when discussion took turn to "Lowering" of the bugs. Upon advice of @nmshaikh, the same post is now being re-posted in the VWCOP thread for larger audience for future reference/comments/discussion on the same.

First of all, slamming on Pakistan roads is a BIG NO! (may be with a little margin to slam the car, can be thought of, but a total body drop is a NO!!)

We all know that bugs can be dropped at rear by adjustment of the spring plates.

Lets talk a little about slamming the bug at the front. I would go as far as I think its sane to slam the bug. Sure there are other means utilizing which you can slam your cars even beyond the level I am going to talk about, but since further slamming doesn't sound sane to me thus I would keep to the "beam adjusters".

The easiest way to slam a bug front by 3 to 4 inches without doing much changes to the stock setup is known by means of "adjustable beams" or say by fitting "adjusters" on the torsion housings on the beam.

I personally think this is the farthest one should go here in Pakistan, i.e. drop by 3 to 4 inches (without having to change the front shocks/spindles - thus easily reversible).

Here is a step by step prictorial elaboration of how this can be achieved:

Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP) - 283444
Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP) - 283453 Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP) - 283454 Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP) - 283455 Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP) - 283456 Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP) - 283457

Once the "adjusters" are fitted on the torsion housing, the adjusters then can be used to rotate the "torsion leafs" inside the housing, both upwards and downwards, making droping/racking possible. While the adjuster screws keep the torsion leafs' centres gripped and keep them from rotating from the point originally desired. Questions? Just ask.

Going beyond this kind of slamming isn't adviseable for Pakistan roads. My two cents worth.

While a lowered car may look cool to some, the bumps and grazes it would receive at the speed humps and pot holes would make it very 'un-cool'. In any case the adjuster is a good way to adjust the ride height. I am all for any method that is reversible.

I suggest you post these pictures and comment on the VWCOP thread for reference and discussion

Maasha-allah. Very solid project. You don't find a lot of them in this condition any more.

Best of luck with the restoration. Please do share updates here or better still start your own thread.

These adjusters can be machined locally if one wants a pair. But the trick is not how to get the adjusters made but their installation. However I too, personally am all for stock height. And I will suggest that you leave yours unmolested as well just like @romano putted.

And if you couldn't stop yourself from experimentation, I would suggest that you do that on a 'spare' beam from a hacked up bug from pappu rather than using the matching number beam on your economy.

Great to hear that this early bug is going to be restored soon. Would be all eyes and ears for the thread to start. Let us all know if you need any help in this connection. But please make sure that you do not restore her but with the "correct" year and "quality" parts. I am sure @nmshaikh has quite a bit of missing bits right for this 1960, and more he can help you find.

Correct year & quality parts might cost a bit more but be assured that if you do that, they would still be there on her for your kids to drive her around and enjoy the same quality of ride you would experience, once she is newly restored.

If I were you, I would leave the original interior and paint alone. Just touch her up whatever panels need to be workd on. And oh, get her some nice "socks" ~ doomed hubcaps

Good luck with the restoration buddy.

Everything but the tyre trail marks of the Type 2. I can see the astronauts foot steps (because those are real and not photoshopped) but cant see the type 2's tyre marks. Seems while doing up the shadow the creator missed this point. May be the Type 2 wasn't driven instead was lowered down to this spot from the spaceship...eh?
