Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

I will show you pics one day.
A mechanic is karachi who does things to VW.
If i get a chance to murder some1. He'll be on my top priority.
He cuts the beetle. Takes the base out. Throws the rest ( kabaria ) and makes trike (3 wheeled bike) out of them and then goes to shahnoorani to check the autheticity of his work. I nearly ended up in a quarrel with him one day, Now when you will see those pics then you will know... Whats bad out there being done to our beloved beetles ....

    Important safety issue:

Many people have work done to their cars and trust the mechanics blindly, this includes me (and i should know better). a week back i had the rear A-arm (IRS) bushes changed on my type 182 and didn't bother to check the work as i thought everythign would be in order. yesterday i took the 182 out for a drive, anyhow, long story,... on the way home i heard a VERY odd sound from the left of my car, enough to scare me into dropping my speed to 10km/h. as i was only 1km from home i decided to check once i get home.

when i got home i started to check the car, i found the rear centre nut/crown had opened and the nut was so loose i ended up removing it with my bare hands!! now had this come off on the road on a moving car you can imagine what would have happened.

reason for this is that when the mechanics did the work, he didn't insert a cotter pin into the crown. now remember that a cotter pin is a specific piece but if you do not have one handy you CAN use a nail even. anything will work as long as it stops the nut from opening.

I urge you all to go check your cotter pins immediately or you're asking for trouble.

    Very valuable tip @Storm.

Patina had her brakes done today, I was there all the time to supervise the whole thing personally. Didn't leave her for a min while the specialist VW Mechanic worked on her brakes.

Made sure all cotters were in place and only once I have had checked all wheel mounting nuts/hub mounting crowns secured with cotters, I mounted the doomed hubcaps with my own hands.

Update 2. tried to move the car today but it was dragging as if the handbrake was half on. Seems that when the rear wheel came loose & the mechanic retightened the centre nut/crown he failed to note that the needle bearings of the rear drive shaft had come out of place. When he tightened the bolt it crushed the bearing & caused it to come appart.

When another mechanics opened the cover just now he found a mangled bearing inside the hub and that was the reason the car was locked up today as if the handbrake was half on.

All this because one of the idiot previous owners switched out the rear brake drums from a regular IRS 182 to a reduction gear IRS 182 so that he could fit bloody toyota rims to the car!!!! when will people learn to stop acting like idiots in the name of fashion, if they can't run a VW they should not ruin them by fitting bloody japanese parts!!

While we receive updates from @Storm over the havoc missing cotter pins could really cause to our beloved cars, I thought it might be relevant to ask if any of the members knew what is the best way to keep the brake backing plate and brake mechanism environment rust free inside the wheel hub/drums. Any tips?

Mumtaz came to the rescue tonight, opened the hub, went over to check the bearing so generously offered by nasir (didn't fit as my car is IRS), went to pindi, found the bearing, came back, fit it, fit a make-shift cotter pin & left. Really appreciated him doing this work so late at night. It's too late for a test drive now, will update tomorrow (with pics)

High gloss powdercoat, nothing beats it's ability to withstand the elements on such parts.
