Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

This and many other alternatives to Bug's StocK heating system have been tested and tried over the years by those who have believed that the stock heating system on the bug wasn't good enough. But the truth of the matter is "nothing" beats the stock heating/defrosting system on the bug, provided your heater boxes/heater channels are in good shape (for minimal loss of heated air) and all the hoses are properly placed and sealed with stock rubber seals with "Y" tubes properly insulated.

My two cents worth, make stock heating system on your bug optimum and you wouldn't even consider thinking about the alternatives.

while we're talking about the heating, and I'd love to have one working for the sake of originality, let's talk about a cooling system, aka air-conditioning which is more in line with our weather. I say this because I have a successful and efficient AC working in my bug for the past 3 years. its concealed and doesn't mess the interior. I'd love to help anyone interested.

what's your current engine setup? what kind of usage does your car see? this woudl be very interesting as i agree on the fact that we CAN have working ACs in our beetles if we wished to but for some reason i've never seen someone able to do such a conversion on a daily driver.

the theory is simple enough and i've always been tempted but since i live in ISB i don't really have to have an AC. KHI on the other hand is a different story.

the theory is simple enough and i've always been tempted but since i live in ISB i don't really have to have an AC. KHI on the other hand is a different story.
I have a '74 std beetle (1200). it is my daily driver. I drive my other cars only on weekends so their batteries remain alive, or once in a couple of months in evenings...

daily clocking is around 40kms and AC is on almost always (even these days). if i'm getting daily groceries (eggs etc) and the family is in the car, i leave it on with AC and have never faced any issues. Since i wanted my beetle to be my daily driver, installing an AC was compulsory. I drive it to work and prefer it over the company provided car.

I've been running this setup for the past 3 yrs, never had any leakage or breakdown and no engine heating issue. The performance drop due to AC load is the same in terms of comparison as in any other car.

I will post detailed pics of the setup after our KHI meetup on 25th as i'd be taking pics of the event that day.

i have the facility to do the complete fitting etc at my workshop if anyone is interested. otherwise, i'll be more than happy to give any advice required.
