Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

@ AsadIshaq: Thanx a lot. Yes it is running a 1600 cc engine. Made a trip to Pindi from Kharian and it went swiftly:-). For the work done on it till now I am grateful to the advice / guidence from fellow pw on this forum. Got the fuel gauge repaired from Khalid at G8. The Speedometer cable was broken. Tried to get it repaired from "Camera Ustad" but didn't work. Am looking for a replacement as the cable is longer for super beetles and not easily available. Found a few at ebay, which I may get if I don't manage to get one locally. Got the plug cables changed.
Next morning I took it to Khalid at westridge. He replaced the left back shock and did general checkup. Have few more things to be done on it from there for which I'll take it to him next weekend hopefully.
Rest it is running fine and I am thoroughly lovin it. Starts every morning at low temperature without a hitch when I go to drop the kids to school (the only problem is the look in their eyes when they see the Altis parked in covers and their dad refusing to drive any other car except the Beetle!!!!) :-)

When did you check it out last, I mean in person? Are there any old pics from time when she used to be grey somewhere on the thread/VWCOP's picasa albums?

I got to inspect it on Saturday. I don't have any pictures of it when she was grey but seems like the beige paint was applied without taking any trouble to mask off the window seals or to reach under the areas hidden by the ragtop so you can tell it was grey a short while ago.

Do you have reasosns to believe it could be a Semaphore European Spec model that had its pillars filled out?

Yes it has the semaphore slots that were patched up at some point in its life.

This fact made her even more costlier to be restored to bone stock specs. Pity. I hope she ends up in caring hands for the right price.

    Unhappy

Yes, the 58 RT is a European Spec car with semaphores (filled up). I saw the car in person back in 2006 when it was still finished in its former breath-taking shade of dull matte grey.

It was pretty rough then, so one can only imagine how it is now.

As challenging as it may be, if the seller gets over his initial 'sheikh chilli' visions and the price is right, then I'm up for saving this one, but being such a basket case it can't be an emotional purchase.

I totally agree. The car was bought for 45k so maybe another 15-20 k finders fee and 60-65k be a good price for the car. Buy it and store it..(may i suggest storing it somewhere less public this once?) and start collecting parts for it. To start with you need a donor car to go with it just like I did when i restored Sally - my 67 vert.
...and above all, it cannot be an emotional purchase..just because it is a RT!

Is this N-1083 RT parked in the little playground in Block N north Nazimabad on the corner of people's colony roundabout?

the gold 1302-S looks fantastic but OTT on the exhaust pea shooter garnish. Makes me nostalgic about my own 1302 that I used to tool around in.

No offense or anything buddy but you should rather transport yourself to 2012 from the 2005 state of mind where VW Type-1s were as cheaply available as much you are willing to pay today. You should read @AsadIshaque post only from day before yesterday about how much a VW costs today on the previous page.

    Good luck with your hunt.
