Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    Great analysis.

You see, the VW registry is already helping build a perception and highlighting what needs attention.

It is incredible what little data can do to benefit the hobby. I am pretty hopeful that this initiative would go a long way to save/showcase the VW heritage of Pakistan over its own good time.

We're already changing to accomodate your Feedback. We've now added the registry for Scrapped / Parted Out VWs. Now you can even report a Scrapped VW to be written off from the Registry to help keep the registry clean.

Here is the preview of the changed Welcome Page on Pakistan's Air-Cooled VW Registry. Check it out!

    Question

Volkswagen Club of Pakistan VWCOP -394936

Call me stubborn, but I for one, refuse to believe that there's only ONE split window bug in PK. Surely there's one rusting away or being driven in the dusty streets of deepest Punjab or some corner of Karachi?

Pitty the results of the registry can't be made public even if there were another one, and the owner withheld consent. Sort of defeats the purpose of a registry, IMHO. But let's see what happens.

Firstly, its being too optimistic about finding a second Split Window Beetle through Registry.

Secondly, even if it was registered somehow with the registry and the owner wouldn't want it to be disclosed, it is moral obligation of the registrar to keep the information undisclosed. I for one wouldn't disclose it unless the owner gives his consent for making the info public.

In personal capacity, I agree that all the information contained in the registry should be made public but then this regulation was placed in order to encourage those ppl who wouldn't want to disclose the VIN/Chassis No. for certain reasons as a registry without VIN/Chassis would be useless in my personal opinion as the idea was to register unique VINs of the cars in order to keep registry authentic.

    Hi,

Guys, i need some urgent advise and help in the current delimma i am facing with the VW.

I had bought a 1600cc engine recently which was sent over to khalid sb's for a once over for any work that might be needed before we plug it into the car. Well, once khalid sb opened the engine everything was found to be in order except for the fact that the sleeve and pistons in the car were found to be for 1300cc which in actuality makes this engine a 1300cc SP.

As per my understanding and little knowledge regarding VW's, if i want to convert the engine back to a 1600cc i would be needing 1600cc sleeves and pistons... Please confirm if that is correct... if some one could also tell me the approx. cost for a 1600cc sleeve and pistons set then i would really really appreciate that...

^^ you would also need a 1600cc head i think.
But the question is, will it do a burnout?

So i went to my mechanic's and saw this 1302 with the roof cut off. On closer inspection i saw how it had affected its structure. The doors were sagging dangerously and even with the doors closed the whole side of the car had serious flex. I also noted the middle part flex when the guy took off from a standstill.
Although the car didn't look all that bad, it was like it shouldn't be driven at all. So my question is, how do you make a convertible and keep the structural integrity. In other words, how do you strengthen the chassis?
Storm had a black one and if i recall correctly, he mentioned that the body and chassis was strengthened in compensation for the loss of roof?
I'd like to know what Volkswagen did for its convertible models.

VW used stregnthening rails under the heater channels for factory convertible models. Here is how the chassis were enforced:
