Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

This is interesting information. My beetle being a economy also has yellow foamy bits in the pillars. How does that fit in ? Did they start doing so for all models by 1969?

I see a tube of generic Curil in the engine assy pictures, Was the case sealed with this? If yes then you have already lost in the battle for leak prevention, this sealant is hard as rock and does not allow expansion of the crankcase when heated. It simply cracks when the crankcase heats up. Threebond 1104 is the only thing that will hold or indian head shellac aviation sealant.

About the foam pads in the corners - The superbugs didnt have them right? because there was an airvent of some sort right above the place where they sit.

Threebond 1104 is now available under a new name (1190 or something). Threebond discontinued 1104 as it contained lead.

Hi Xulfiqar, this sounds like bad news.. I will check from Khalid sb but I am sure he would have used the best available thing as we are not rushing through time and trying our best to bring out the best..
Had to wait for months to locate the orignal german main and all but we only moved on when we found em

Its a replica Heb, hand crafted and very well done. It is owned by Amjad Mawaz who also owns a restored Oval window beetle (among others) He is working on a stretch beetle these days and I believe it should be on road this summer.

CIP1 is a bad place to buy, so is JC Whitney..they offer lower prices which unfortunately, attract unsuspecting buyers not realizing that the quality of the sellers product is crappy to say the least. Best to buy from WCM or Wolfsburgwest who for the most part manufacture their own parts in the US and stand behind their products.

original yes but not for the 'thing' the gauge cluster belongs on a type 2 or an early Baywindow to be precise. The glove box lid is off the same vehicle. The steering wheel is probably off a Japanese auto.

The dash would probably need to be crafted from scratch unless there are the remains of the old dash hiding behind the bus dash

If you are planning to restore this I'd say leave the dash alone for until you can find a solution. You may ask another Thing owner to let you copy the dash in Fiber glass. The gauge and switches from a beetle would fit and not look out of place. The present dash is not original but is at least VW and from the look of it a fairly decent fitting. You may have to do something about the steering column.

It's probably 182 since it is right hand drive but I could be wrong
If you are going to buy start looking for parts since its vital parts are missing such as the hood , windshield frame, roof frame ,back engine door wiper motor e.t.c

None of the parts are available in pak so u will have to get them imported from abroad or get them fabricated
Best place to look for parts in eBay and thesamba.com
Mechanics won't be a problem since most parts are same as beetle

    Default Shindoor (Chitral) rally

The annual Polo competition at Shindoor takes place in the first week of July. The dates for the 2012 event are July 07 - 09. The plan is to drive on the KKH to Gilgit and onward to Hunza Karimabad with a day trip to the worlds highest paved border crossing - Khunjerab. The next leg of our rally would take us to Shindoor for the polo final. We make our way back to Islamabad via Lowari Pass. During our journey we would have traveled thru three of the worlds greatest mountain ranges - the Himalayas, the Karakorams and the Hindukush. The drive requires your VW to be in top shape mechanically.

This is an idea that has been evolving but still needs to be fine tuned further. This e-mail is a feeler to find out how many (if any) people would be interested to join me and my son on our trip as we put Billo to yet another test to the' roof of the world'

Let me know if you have any questions.
