Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

My question is, are there any splitscreen single/double cab pickup trucks known to exist in Pakistan as of today? Though I seriously doubt if there are any, that are known as of yet, but still one never knows.
I know of at least two crew cab bay windows (in Pakistan) but no split windows. On a side note, I visited someone in the US a few weeks back and he had in his stash several buses that he would have been more than happy to sell. (the neighbour had called the city and complained that the buses were an eyesore!!!) These included a 23 window Samba. The asking price was between $2000 and $5000!!!

Now please wipe that drool off your chin and go back to work cuz that is what I am going to do too. Until we can collect enuff money to pay Zardari, the import of classics that can be restored and maybe even re-exported would remain a distant dream....

    VW fuses anyone????

I have some fuses for the VW's. Made by Flosser Germany, they are, as Romano would say, "from a good family"

I have the 16A (red) and the 8 amp (white) ones.

Priced at Rs. 100 each shipped to anywhere in Pakistan. Rs. 90 each if you pick up in person. Please PM me for payment instructions.

    I require the following items:

The chrome bowl that goes inside the headlights
Plastic inserts that fit in the interior door handles
    Fresh air knob+insert
    Bonnet handle rubber seal
Rear assist straps+hooks, i have the fitting brackets.
But the question is, will it do a burnout?

I would want to buy a "dozen each" of 8amp & 16amp...let me know how to pay (please include shipping cost to Multan).

I wouldn't mind buying more if that doesn't come to fall in the category of "hoarding".

(Billo had one during her stay in Canada but was the first thing removed before we drove with the VCCCP rally)
I wasn't referring to the fact that there is no thermostat currently installed. Instead I was referring to the fact that there is no "access hole" in the cylinder tins for the thermostat. Or did they stopped punching the hole in late years?

My 70 has the thermostat installed, matching piece that came with the car from factory and I am trying to put together a set of thermostat flaps + bellows for Patina as well.

The point comes to mind is that VW definitely knew its markets the fact that they were exporting to countries globally where the thermostats weren't really required (following your verdict abt hot conditions) but still they didn't make it an optional part. So I am guessing it might be hot here in Pakistan but thermostat assembly is still an intergral part of the cooling/air flow control system on an aircooled flat four thus trying to put one together for Patina too.

It has yet to be confirmed if the cars that we see equipped with thermostats actually were exported by VW to Pakistan. You have to bear in mind that a lot of cars that we see on roads in Pakistan were brought in by individual owners mostly from Europe and some even from the US and Australia. Bella - the van you saw being worked on in the pictures was actually destined for Chittagong Pakistan. Maybe that is the reason there is no thermostat present.

Your post gives me an idea. Let me check with my friend in Karachi who owns a 1974 economy sold by Modern Motors in Pakistan. This particular car is the most original car I have ever seen and most likely to have everything that came from the factory.

Yeah checking with your friend might be a good idea. But to carry the discussion further, I dont remember reading an "M-CODE" associated with "optional" Air Flow Control System (Cooling System/Theromostat) anywhere on the Samba, neither on the literature that I have come across. They put an "M-Code" for all the "optional" stuff, didn't they? So if it was offered as an "option" there should be a listing/M-Code attached to it as well, isn't it? Absence of which would mean that it was not offered as an "option" and was "required" function/system to complete the integrity of the motor.

The same can be argued in another way...that the thermostat was NOT an option for certain countries. It was either with or without...

I cannot say anything with certainty as I have not researched the topic as yet. It would be interesting to confirm. Samba maybe?
