    Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

    Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    hello everyone, the following two cars are up for sale:

    1. VW 1967 microbus - full restoration (1 year ago), ovenbaked paint job, vw yellow, anti-rust treatment all over the car, inside and out, will last you another 10 years without worry even in karachi weather, all new rubbers, major engine overhaul (1500 cc) with less than 400 kilometers since overhaul, mechanically perfect, all new wiring. interior not done, buyer can customize to hearts content, wiring at the back for any speaker systems, amps, etc. great quality restoration and probably the best microbus in the country right now. all taxes paid, all documentation in order. pictures: 1967 VW Microbus - a set on Flickr

    2. 1979 CJ 7 - full restoration 3 years ago, operation desert storm colour scheme, 100% original car with original 6 cylinder petrol engine, transmission changed from 3 gear to 4 year set up, addition of power steering and power brakes, comes with beautiful beige canvas top in great condition (taken off for the purpose of photographs) complete vehicle very rare probably one of the very few extremely original CJ7's in Pakistan (ex-army car), half self start, driven and maintained regularly and is in extremely reliable shape, taxes and documentation in order. pictures: 1979 CJ 7 - a set on Flickr

    Somebody up the thread wrote that 165/80R/15 is the correct tyre size for a bug. I even read here that the closest match was a Honda City Tyre (? 175/65/15). The former is not available here in Karachi. . . . . as far as I know. Will the latter one be ok for a 71 standard bug please?
    Anyone in Karachi where can I get good new tyres out here? Any suggestions, shops. . . . . please enlighten

    You are right about 165 80R 15 being the correct size for VW beetles. However it is no more available. The last consignment of NEXEN's we got from karachi is probably sold out or if there are any left they'd have a years life left after sitting on the shelves. The next best option is Eurostars 175 65 15 which come factory fitted on a Honda City. Most owners do not like the looks and performance of Eurostars as there were a few issues on the motorway at high speeds. However with proper inflation and care these perform flawlessly on our VW's. the only thing visual that I do not like about them is that they leave a lot more empty space under the fenders (as they are lower profile than stock) The engine would run at about 150-200rpm higher at 100km/hr compared to stock size and the speedometer would be a tad out as well. However this should not be a major concern for city drivers.

    As regards the correct size tyres, we have a huge source of these tyres right across our border..India. This size is correct for Ambassador and is produced in plenty. I brought a pair of tyres from India and was quite pleased with their performance. The roads in India are worse than the roads here and the weight of an Ambassador is comparable with our VW's so they are a perfect solution. JK tyres are manufactured under licence from Continental tyres AG. There are other brands available (same size) so its a question of getting them here. If someone can speak to an importer we can order 10 or so sets in the first instance with a promise of repeat orders. We tried the JK tyres dealer in Lahore and he turned out to be a dud..didn't seem interested in a small order. However i am sure there is some enterprising dealer who might want this small but steady business...

    @nmshaikh:
    Thank you for the elaborate reply!
    What would be 'proper inflation and care' in the case of Eurostar?

    I would say inflated to 28psi front and back. (it sounds a little high for the front but if you go lower then the steering is harder to turn) The tires should regularly be rotated and the wheel alignment should be done every 15000km or sooner if you drive in an area with bad roads. Good steel wheels are getting harder to find but try and get the better of the set in the front and the worst as a spare.(with a good tyre ofcourse) The wheels should be balanced at the same time you get the alignment done. If you hit a bad pothole or the kerb then get that wheel checked for balance. It makes a heck of a difference in the front tyres.

    No it would not. It should have the correct pcd and should be 4 bolt. I think beetle pcd is 120.
    But the question is, will it do a burnout?

    Pitch Circle Diameter. Its the measurement of how far apart your bolts are. The diameter of the circle with your bolts on the circumference.

    As with any old car, the selling price is determined by how badly the buyer wants it. A restored VW is a VERY relative term. One mans restored and ready car might and in most cases WILL be another mans project to begin with. Often in our country restorations have corners cut and people hardly put in the time and effort.

    same is the case for the second point and third actually. a good condition beetle depends on what you call good. also it depends on whether the car in question is a 1950 split window beetle or a 1974 with a regular 1300 cc engine.

    The price is always right as long as the buyer and seller both agree. having said that, a properly nice restored VW in this part of the world is not worth what it should be.
