    Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

    Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    @psyb0rg
    i have only ever seen this airbox once and it was on a 1200 somehow,... even though it is strictly for the 1500 (usual found on the "H" series engine in PK). over here i guess it's a rare part as i could never find one for my 1500cc 68.

    not too sure about the empi parts from china thing,.. didn't know that, but it makes sense as nowdays alot of companies are doing their own parts to compete with empi stuff.

    Hi,
    That is an Oil Bath filter. I've seen plenty. I think u can find plenty of these in pindi as well. Why u ask?

    I think EMPI are extremely good parts for a VW. I've not seen any comments on them going bad or being from China. Whats ur source for that info ??

    @MSKhan18, are you sure about the filter? The one in the pic has 2 air intake openings. The ones I see here in Karachi are these ones:

    And about EMPI, I've been reading on many forums that EMPI has started manufacturing many of its engine parts in China and these are of inferior quality to the older US-made parts.

    Logging in from a friends house.........shows how popular PW Is to us!!

    The engine bay pic posted is of a 1967 1500 VW. If you have a good eye notice the partially visible rear valance.......the one year only 67 one.

    That aircleaner was only available on the 67 models hence its rarity.

    @ Storm

    The correct aircleaner for your EX 1500 68 bug would be the one shown in the last pic above.

    I cant really comment on EMPI parts quality. Yes Psyborg, wats the source of your claim???

    Generally speaking, you can get VW aftermarket parts in a wide range of qualities of course depending on the price. Companies often advertise their products as being of best, better and average qualities.

    I got a pair of Bugpack chrome eyebrows for the headlights of my 59 ragtop from London. Even there I had a choice between three qualities from the same company. You get what you pay for!!!

    Best regards.

    The thick pipe is available at Cheap autos, Im pretty sure I saw it, tho not certain.

    The thinner pipe needs abit of locating. I got mine from a regular pipe walla after a lot of roamaing around. You will need a sample to take out the guess work.

    Hafta run now as the friend Im with is ready to go out shopping with me

    And BTW, is it true that nowadays EMPI engine parts are made in China, and are not considered to be of good quality?
    No claims!

    A workshop here in Lahore has many engines for sale, but the serial numbers of the engines begin with a V and BZ.

    DO u guys have any details on these engines, meaning V and BZ series.

    The V engine is a 1700cc Type 4 engine rated at 68hp. Couldn't find about the BZ code...

    Would sure like to have a V series for my bug :-)

    Dunno Sameer Bhai, I did'nt ask, although I wanted to!, I was too busy getting work done by incompetent mechanics on my car, Jeez they really try to make a fool out of everyone.

    I had had the carb rebuilt with lots of hard work and the incompetent guy in this other workshop totally effed it up.

    The mechanic I go to doesnt deal in "Kabuli Parts" only these guys do, so one has to come to them if one requires any out of the way, "parts replacement maintenence".

    BTW will post details of work done on "how to debug" forum as soon as I can get data out of me phone.

    I can mail u the mechanics phone# or if u are interested can go and ask the price for u.

    BTW the BZ engine they have is a real beauty, all stainless steel and stuff.

    BTW the 1700cc motor, is it compatible with a 1300cc gearbox, meaning is it the same overall block size as the 1300cc-1600cc engines.

    @aliasif

    get in touch with Asad Bhai (@asadishaque), he is also a Karachiite and i believe the most knowledgeable person regarding Bugs on PW.

    @devilzpassion
    Yaar this is Lahore, I believe the parts scene there in Karachi is much more vibrant. One can't even get basic parts over here most of the time.

    Hey, Karachiites, dont take what u have for granted, Lahore aao to pata lagay ga kay Beetle rakhna kitna mushkil hay is Shehr mein!
    Absurd part prices, absurd labour rates, idiot mechanics (atleast most of them),If one has a Bug over here, the mechanics consider one to be a mummy daddy ultra rich family bacha, who is shoqeen of Beetles, and consider it their right to rip one off.

    Seeing the way the mechanics mishandle everything, and then charge absurd prices i was of the opinion that basic maintainence (like tuning etc) should be done by oneself, rather than taking one's poor little bug to the sharks.

    main oil seal (not brazilian) is 200
    main oil seal (brazilian) is approx 150

    the non brazilian one is much softer and provides a MUCH better seal and also lasts longer.
