    Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

    Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    @ au

    The roofrack project has long since been in 'the pipeline'. heres the whole story.....

    Some years ago I spotted a black Mazda 323 taxi outside my uni. The roofrack seemed similar!! Instinctively I dashed after it, crossing the mainroad in leaps and bounds. Indeed it was a VW woodslat roofrack tho it had been cut to fit the Mazda!

    You should have seen the look on the taxi drivers face when to the answer of 'jee kahan jana hay??' I replied how much is that thing for???

    Well I purchased the rack after a bit of 'gentle persuasion' and showering the man with some $$$.

    I took the rack to the Jubilee Cinema area known to be the biggest and perhaps only market for roofracks. One of my denter friends was along and we trudged up and down the whole market but not a single person was willing to repair leave alone replicate the rack.

    After a lot of requests one man did repair the rack (the four stands had to be elongated to the original length to fit a VW). He did a lousy job and the rack doesnt look very good.

    So I plan to fabricate another from scratch. Will need to hunt down pipes of the same dia as my original specimen and then persuade one of my denters to go ahead with the mini project.

    Plus we need wooden slats to complete this. And then powder coating as against painting for a tough durable finish.

    So I have no idea of the cost.

    Whenever I get down to it Ill let people know here.

    Best regards.

    Here are some parts I got chromed just now.

    The back sides adn the ashtrya interior need a coat of paint to prevent rusting and maybe the face shud be sprayed with lacquer for durability.

    This is an experimental mini project as I want to see how long the local chrome lasts. I found this set at the scrapyard with chrome flaking off and thought of giving it a try myself.

    Have nothing to lose as the originals in my daily driver 68 are damaged and need replacement anyway. If this experiment fails I do have a chance to revert back to genuine painted ones, a set of which is already in my parts stash.

    @safeershah, you have the steering wheel on on your oval, which tells me that you've got a replacement piece for the car. So, how much do you want for the one in the pics?

    BY going through the sounds, I found out that my fan is loose, and the mechanic said the generator bearings are gone...

    @romano
    well said.

    @psyb0rg
    the L-series is from the Type2 and only produces 40hp (65-68models only) whereas the H-series was made for the type1 and makes 44hp (65-70models only). personally i'd suggest he swap it for a H-series whenever possible as he'll enjoy the drive alot more.

    @rockaholiciam
    are those 1302/1302 rear fenders on your car? what model is it exactly? i'm guessing it is a post 68 delux model but not too sure as it seems paels and parts have been changed over it's life. still i'm glad you have joined us. now i'm sure asad is going to be on your case to get work done to your car to make it look and feel brand new.
