Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    @ vdubber

Thanks a lot! I think the best anyone can do is find a suitable owner for it. Other than that we might be needing a storage space for the car if its not purchased by anyone in the very recent future.

    Any ideas??

Brother my first priority is to find a caring owner. If not then I will try to arrange a temporary storage...........

    @ ASAD

Salam people - yes i did start this post ages ago - sometime around mid 2006 - never thought it'd become so popular.

I actually googled VW after i bought my lil brother the 74 beetle and to my surprise this post came up as one of the search results - i was like wow i honestly didnt remember but from then on i said i would try and post from time to time.

I work at Mobilink as a team lead and cars are my passion. I own an Accord '88, a Nissan 1.5SE coupe, a Merc 72 original diesel and latest purchase was the '74beetle.

thanks for the insight on the generator - it did look like a pretty bad job done - do you know where i could get an original from?

Also advise on wheels - i would like to fit it with some hollow alloys and big wheels - maybe 215 and have it lowered too. what do you suggest?

    @ mus1

Glad that you are back here.....would like to see regular posts from you now.

You can get a post 73 Alternator from Bilal Gunj or maybe one of Lahore's VW expert mechanics/electricians and have it fit. An alternator puts out more power than the pre 73 generator currently on your car.

Dont forget to get the alternator pedestal along with the deal with the holddown strap. Both are different for an alternator since the diameter is larger.

I would recommend getting the whole unit along with the fan and backing plates (2) as a package. Its easier then rather than mix n match from your old setup.

While Im at this let me mention that the pair of backing plates direct cool air from the fan shroud thru the alternator.....essential if you dont fancy frying your new investment.

Expect to pay around Rs 2500 to Rs 3000/- for the setup. This is a rough figure, much depends on what kinda mood the seller is in.

I dont think you should consider lowering the bug here.....the roads are killers!

Alloys would look nice but dont go for super wide tyres IMHO. Anyway I would prefer the stock steelies. People would differ from me here.

    Best regards.

    @ umer 127

I dont think you can get a NEW VW old beetle engine....maybe the new beetle engines are here??

Btw the new beetle engines are not at all compatible with the old beetle so dont even think of going for a swap.

OH pipe down all of you! Gas shocks, disc brakes, new steering damper, new ball joints, and ONLY then would I say rims are ok, and that too a max of 5.5 inches. Remember cars should BE fast, not just look it. Actually, it is said that Greddy, Redline and other %#^* stickers are another way to make a car a car go faster. True or false :-)

    @ All
I am planning to buy a beetle and the pics posted below are one of the availables, any views and comments about it.Furthermore, is there any beetle for sale, which may not be very gooid looking but in fine running condition.
    @ Romano
Thanks for responding to the same question on another post. There are some points which I would like to clarify though.first of all I don't plan to go for a complete restoration straight away,so keepiing the apparent aspects aside, would this car be good to buy and bring it to normal running condition foir few months may be, specifically as compared to the 1968 beetle financed by you,and being delt in by Asad.As I went to have a look at that as well.
The facts you mentioned were so hardcore autmotive that I would need some time to understand them

@Seakings, why not consider the Aussie Beetle project? Its close to ready on body and frame, not painted yet. Have a look at the link in members' rides under Romano's Aussie Beetle project or something similar. Just posted some pics today.

    @ devilzpassion
now I am considering the fact of going for one which is already in a running condition.BTW do you know any historic facts about the red one.If yes, do share with us.And yes if there is a beetle running around and for sale, do info me.Thanks
    @ romano
yea I saw some pages opf the thread that you have mentioned.First of all the beetle is in Isb,secondly I don't want to go for a major restpration project right away(due to financial limitations),so Aussie might not be a right choice for me.still I will check the thread completely and then would reply.

    @all
we went for the acceptance trials of red one and the engine is in ok condition but body is in a poor state.Romano's recomended cost was offered ,though reluctantly,to the mech/owner
and it felt like we have almost slapped him.he was kind of furious.......any cooments asad....
