Default Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

    @ timeless, storm et all..

Regarding Romanos stand for puristism (is that a word??)

Yes his 1200cc economy bug has a 1600 dual port put in for fun driving. The original engine is carefully stored I believe so Im sure the car can be reversed back to its original form in a matter of a couple of hours.

What Romano preaches (correct me if Im wrong please) is for people to first sort out the mechanical bits the right way and only then going for alloy rims and such bling bling.

An original beetle has its own charms even if its in faded paint. One needs to see it through the eyes of a lover!

    Romano

I recenlty saw thin and wide whitewalls and thin redwalls for sale by a company on thesamba. Let me see if I can dig up the link.

From what I remember the price was high but not unbelievably high.

If we can manage and I can afford, Id be interested in a set of wide whitewalls for the ragtop.

And Storm, I dont think those count as fluffy things! Vintage appeal......

Mechanically fit Beetles are ESSENTIAL kit for
    -off road forays
-pushing cars which get in the way off road
    -tail outs on ramps
-blowing off rubbernecking pimply kids in diesel converted Corollas
Now, what was that about metallic paint, wide tyres, orange interiors, crystal lights, massive sound systems, racing stripes, alloy rims, widened fenders, shortened gear levers, fake air scoops...

    @ romano

Got your point, hope others do too.

While the gun is still smokin, do let me know if its not sacrilege to go for a 1500 style louvered rear decklid, post 73 rear fender and elephants feet, American spec front seats n steering and a few bits on a 68 1300??

I have a few plans up my sleeve......

Sidewall inserts? NYET! Upgrading a '68 would be great (minus the rear fenders tho....) I can help u achieve a unique look on the car.

The post 73 rear fenders is an idea yet. I do have a pair of fibreglass ones lying around so I just need a pair of elephants feet. Maybe if Im lucky I source a pair of steel ones in good shape.

Im tempted as it would help me give the other 68 a different look and it would be reversible over a weekend.

What other ideas do you have??? Brainstorming please!!

    Here or over the phone???

    @ romano

Nice to chat with you over the phone. You can see some pics of the bug in question here:

    https://www.pakwheels.com/forumreply_az_TopicID!16783~ForumID!6~pw.html

    Constructive (and destructive!) critisism welcome.

    This was a budget-yet-no-compromise-on-parts-etc resto.

As I said I have loads of parts to put on so a new look would not be a very big financial burden.

    Best regards.

    @asad
those inserts have been done before here in ISB and they came off due to the heat over here on one of classic cars (non VW)

as for calling them fluffy, that's only for romano, i'll call anything he does to his car "fluffy", anyone else is welcome to do it.

I guess you do have a point about these inserts coming off.....but then I think people here are stuck with using 'Samad Bond' for all needs! Im sure a better glue is available?

While on this subject, could you recommend some nice glue (locally available) which may be used for the roof liner?? Samad Bond tends to yellow with age.

there is this german white glue which is rarely available in PK but i've used it and you have no idea how strong that stuff is. it's used in sialkot alot in the embriodery business as well as the garments business. perhaps someone from there could source you some.
