    @sfarhanuddin

I spent around Rs.75,000.00 on restoration of a VW Beetle 1200, 1970, in 2006. I'll upload the pictures within this week...... The said Beetle was bought for Rs.20,000.00 with unpaid Road Tax for 4 years and 2 fake tax receipts…… CNG has been installed. I would not recommend CNG in a Beetle…… Road Tax not yet regularized.....

It depends on the sincerity of your mechanic, however….

for new CNG approx 25k, for engien work approx 15k , inertior 10k
CNG works as well as on ne other car, to keep RR layout working dont install cylender on front. mount it in space between engien and rare seat..

Did anyone say a Beetle project???

    Im excited!!

Ok....so you have recieved some guidance by now and I see the posters are more or less on the right track.

A Beetle for 15k in running condition should be grabbed at once considering the fact I just picked up one for Rs 25K from a scrapper. He had bought it for Rs 23K. Thats the scrap price. By weight in steel and all.

What model is the Beetle you have in mind?? Just asking, never believe anyone who says this model is better and this is not....blah blah.....

Msm is right. The project may cost you anything between 50K and 300K. Thats additional to the cost price. A lot depends as to what 'path' you take and above all who your mechanic is.

An engine top quality rebuild was costing around Rs 25K from the best rebuilders. Prices are Ex petrol price hike so I cant say for now. There are a bit cheaper mechanics too, 15K may be enough as stated here. Its your luck how the engine is. It may not need any immediate work if lady luck really smiles at you.

Interior.......it can cost you within 10K for a good job. Cheaper at cheap places but then the quality may be doubtful and not long lasting. I had an interior done on my daily driven 68 bug costing Rs 7K in 1998. Apart from a couple of areas of undone stiching it looks good even now.

Denting....cant give you any figure. Denters prices vary widely. You get what you pay for. Same goes for paint. Paint jobs are available to suit a variety of pockets. From crap budget 'showers' to bare metal bake finishes.

About CNG, Ive heard it being put in. Ive seen cars with it but none of my close friends have any experience so I will not comment. Ive seen cars running on LPG though and there seem to be no issues. i run all my cars on good old petrol though. Can people with first hand experience share their thoughts here please???

Sfarhanuddin has restored his beetle in a very reasonable figure. I dont know how much work was required to start with. Would love to see the pics really soon.

I restored a REALLY basket case 68 a few years ago and the total cost crept upto 1lac 20K. Depends on what you do.

You can search these forums with the key words 'VW, Beetle, Foxy' etc and see what comes up.

Let us know where you reside so we can guide with you with the mechanics of the area.

    Keep us posted.

    Best of luck.

to me you should 1st make ur car just driveable rather than going for a rebuild at once, try to feel it get bit familiar wid it get some info, keep in touch wid Asad and others and than slowly get into rebuilt.
dats my thinking decission will be of course yours

    @ Asad

    @ sfarhanuddin

Thats the best approach you have mentioned

''make ur car just driveable rather than going for a rebuild at once, try to feel it get bit familiar wid it''

The white 68 is with me. Was parked at an acquaintances place when I left for the UK in 2005 in showroom condition. Its in a state of total neglect now. I plan to rescue the poor thing and give it a cosmetic resto very soon. Finances are an issue now but I hope things would ease up a bit next month. Have some nice tricks up my sleeve for it to make it into a nice and interesting ride.

Oh apart from this the 59 ragtop project is being pushed forward inch by inch. Dealing with the denter is becoming a headache now.

    @ akila

The dash is usually painted when the whole car is painted. We have seen some interesting cutoms with beige colored dashboards recently. Search the VCCCP show 2008 pics for the radical modified black convertible bug.
