    Default Restoring my dad's Yamaha 1984 80cc

    Assalam u Alekum everyone
this is my first thread on PakWheels.
My dad bought this yamaha 80cc back in 1984.since then, the bike was used to the extreme as it was the only transport in the family. during the 1990s, Allah blessed us with a car and by 2006, my dad officially stopped using the bike. since then, its been standing in our backyard. i recently returned from abroad and am really interested in restoring it to its original condition. its frame is in original color, tanks and sides were painted once around 1998 but have faded again, front and back lights are original (believe it or not) even though the bike was doing around a 100kms/day upto its disuse. its going to leave for the workshop in a day or two.
Things that i want to get done
    1. an engine overhaul with genuine yamaha parts
    2. complete paint job.
    3. new wiring, new battery
    4. chrome plating and nickel paint where ever needed.
    5. all other accessories that originally came with it
6.whatever i can think off without overdoing anything

Suggestions and positive criticism are highly welcome. guys, do help me out on this one. i know its not a very complicated task but i dont want to mess up on this one. JazakAllah
here are some picks after i dusted the bike and got its tires running

are you choosing hard chroming? or regular chroming - the hard chrome costs about 10 times more for a single piece as they have to coat copper on it first then nickel - but will last 50 years at least.

Change all engine screws to allen head screws (socket screw) they are TOUGH and can be opened and re tightened many times without chewing up the heads like the original philips heads that came on the engine from the factory. (I hate those cheap screws)

@Xulfikar....man i dont have a guarantee if i'll last the next 50 years to admire the everlasting chrome, so getting a 10 times more expensive job ..... mmmmmmmmm ....... im being a little skeptic here.... the chrome guy has already approximated the chrome job around Rs.3000-4000, so going 10 times over this would mean........
but yeah im gonna look for allen head screws coz the way u described, they'll add the final touches to the outlook of the bike
@all..... i just called the mechanic and asked him if i could come tmrw n c the progress. well he said it'll be better if i'd come on monday coz hez going out of town for the weekend... im really sorry guys....im myself annoyed for the work being delayed for 2 days....but InhaAllah i'll go on monday and post the latest progress pics by evening......till then, stay in touch and keep supporting

if not ten times but 5 times more then - how come you guys get expensive quotes - and JB Saeed & Co. make some nice allen screws, measure out the entire engine set with a ruler in mm. goto any hardware market that carries screws and buy.

well all electrical work is yet to be done, along with atleast a million other minor mechanical works. hopefully InshaAllah the bike will be ready in about 4-5 days. im not just hoping for a nice looking ride, im also aiming for one that is mechanically reliable.although the entire assembly will b over in about 2 days, the mechanic is going to take the bike out and ride it for a while to make sure everything is set.
i'll post more pics to show u guys what it looks like in the end. till then, take care

great job dr sab, but i think u should have changed shock obsorber's pumps instead of getting them repaired as the oil starts leaking after a while (if u keeping the bike with u) .

    Gud gud,
It looks that it has been nicely done.
    I agree with babaisboss.
You should have changed the complete unit instead of getting the shocks repaired.
Anyways I will be waiting for the final pictures.

salam every1.i just came back after an extremely tiring day at the workshop. m really angry at the way the mechanic and electrician have made progress. i actually lost my temper at a point too. to cut a long story short, the whole bike's been totally opened up again for a complete wiring job as well as upgrading the old wiring system from 6V to 12V. after that, the mechanic will start the engine and test run it to look for problems. the bike will be done only by monday evening (tmrw is sunday too)

there r many things regarding the budget plans that i really wanna share with u guys. i originally estimated the budget to be around 8000-11000. however, it now has crossed 20000 at the moment and i m still expecting another 1000-1200 increase. i myself went to buy some electric stuff (rectifiers etc) for the bike, and believe me, the prices are sky-high. with the money i've spent on restoring, i cud've easily bought an decent yamaha 100cc or even a suzuki sprinter 2006 model. the only reason i decided to spend this much on this bike is because of its history in the family(u can refer to my 1st post for details). for all u guys out there looking forward to restore old bikes, remember that the parts for motorbikes are EXTREMELY expensive.

    It happens.
I was also expecting a bill of 10~12k while restoring my CD, but the bill crossed 25k and my bike was in a very good state if compared with the initial stage of your bike.
BTW a suggestion from my side.
Try to stick with the 6 volt wiring system if 6 Volt accessories are easily available in Lahore.
In my opinion converting the single coil generator to 12 volts is not a good idea.

@danayalahmad...the electrician has charged me Rs.600 for re-winding the coils only. he said it was a necessary step in converting to 12V, n said it wud last too. the previous lights (the ones on 6V) were really very dull, cudnt even c properly at night. now hez placing in Stanley headlight bulb and changing all other lights to 12V too.. the internal wiring was genuine n fine...im not getting that replaced
    @faheemboy......hopefully InshaAllah....lets wait till monday
