    Smile Restoring Yamaha 100cc (YB100, model:1980)

    Hi everyone,

I have decided to restore my dad's old YB100. It has been lying around in the garage for 10 years or so. I would also like to mention that I have absolute ZERO experience regarding bikes or engines and not even remotely related to those, this is my first ever project.

PS: Since I am a bit busy with my own projects, the progress on this is going to be a bit slow (probably only weekends). And this project can even fail due my lack of experience !

OK enough talk, let's get started:

Original condition: The bike appears to be in a pretty bad shape:

Special thanks: I would like to thank our respected pakwheels member @
vickytulla (Waqar) for the much needed initial guidance.

Even more oil pump shots. (And no, oil pump is NOT my favourite component :p ). Check the amount of fungus on the pump.

First there was green gunk, now brown ***** is coming out:

Alright guys, this is it for now. Thank you for viewing and commenting on this thread. You can also subscribe this thread to make sure you get all the latest updates !

Right now I am facing the following challenge. Main rotor nut has already been taken off the wheel. I really need to get the rotor wheel off but I guess the rust has gotten way too deep into the assembly. Any ideas how to remove this ???

Hopefully see you next week. (as I already mentioned that I am too lazy and work only on weekends ). Please feel free to ask questions, comments, suggestions, pointers, anything currently in your mind. That will help me a lot!

Yes I am using LOADS of WD-40. But I am starting to have a feeling that it is utterly useless in my case.

    LOL, hahahaha good one

Thanks, i'll try it again with the magnet puller. I won't use a hammer or torch on the flywheel, bad idea . What is the price of a new/used flywheel in case if I screw this one up?

That is pretty reasonable. Apart from rust, the components are covered in real gunk, oil, fungus, slime and God knows what else. Any idea how I can make these 100% brand new squeaky clean? Hot water and soap is one option but I want something stronger, much stronger that actually leaves no traces of oil and gunk etc on the metal.

Petrol and kerosene oil? Aren't these EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to work with like this? Little spark due to cleaning friction and you end up being B.B.Q... ?

What do you think about petroleum solvent? The stuff that probably all dry cleaners use?

Well heat due to friction, static discharge, hot components, wires and electricity, short circuiting, close compartments, not to mention some visitor coming in with a huge cigar. All of the ustaads working with petrol don't make it to the news headlines that's why we don't know much LOL. Plus I am no expert, i am just a beginner, chances of screwing up are even higher !
