    The Yamaha(India) YZF-R15

    Today i had the opportunity to visit the launch event for the new YZF-R15 bike and i decided, in my usual way, to make a thread out of it. Hope you like the pics. The bike, by the way, costs INR 97,000.00 ex-showroom. Tell me what you think about the bike...

    I'm quite offended by the tone of your post. While i do accept that i mistakenly labeled the Fazer as the R-15, my other information is based on first hand information from Yamaha reps at the event. The Fazer and the off-road bikes were projected as potential offerings in the Indian market based on consumer reaction and demand. If you can name a more reliable source for your information , please do so.Learn from 'c123pk's postings in this thread, for a start.

    Thank you.

    Regards.

    If any new model has plans of a future launch, then it is normally intimated to the press and not to any other guy walking into a launch event.

    I cannot quote any reliable source for the launch of the models stated by you as there has been NO news for it.

    Also you couldn't even recognise the Pulsar 200 which happens to be a very popular model in India in one of the pics posted by you yourself.

    @DesiBoy

    I get it now. You wanna be the sole authority on Indian bikes on PW and you feel i'm stealing your thunder away from you. Really. I am no authority on bikes and i went along to check the new bike out and have a good time. My source for the info is the Yamaha reps (they showcased the Fazer and the offroaders specifically to gauge reaction, for what joy , i wonder?). Yes, the local press was there (including a local movie actor and some RJ's)and look for the coming weekend automotive section in the sunday papers this coming weekend for more news on Yamaha(India)'s products .That is, if you REALLY ARE in Chennai. And, frankly all Pulsar variants look alike. I can't tell one from the other.Cheers!...

    Hheheheheh... u said and i quote "all pulsar variants look alike" ...this is the biggest s*** i v ever heard and person in India who is a bike enthusiast would easily distinguish between the pulsar 200 ,pulsar 220 and pulsar normal 150/180cc coz the main diffrence in looks between the p220 and p200 is the front faring and the main diffrence in looks between the pulsar 150/180 and pulsar200 is the oil cooked guard in the front and its side faring which is there on the p200.

    I am correcting you NOT because I want to be the sole authority on Indian bikes on Pakwheels. but my only concern is that the info put out here should be correct and authentic.

    peace.

    the Pulsar variants share many parts and therefore look alike to the untrained eyes. but bikers can easily distinguish them from far.

    also I am not in Chennai right now.

    hehehehe...!

    Rock on, brother. I love PW!.

    p.s. except for the fact that i goofed up by labeling the Fazer as the R-15, all info i have posted is authentic and based on Yamaha(India) sources at the event.Infact, they were asking folks about their impressions of all the products on display including the R-15 and offering T-shirts and other memorabilia as incentives for the surveys.Anyways, whatever.....

    Why this abusive language?. I'm not a bike or Pulsar enthusiast. How would i know or care?.

    @nickatnite, desiboy

    I am not too much into information on the Indian bikes, but I am a member of a web based Indian bike community, a Yahoo group actually and I saw the exact bike mentioned as R15 there too. I'll have to ask them clear out this situation and let you know too.

    Hi @all,

    Yamaha is one of the struggling Japanese 2W makers in India. The top3... Hero Honda (not Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India Pvt. Ltd. ), Bajaj (Kawasaki, their collaborator still has no idea to foray into the world's second largest 2W market) and TVS (after an agreement with TVS for separation, Indian passenger vehicle giant Suzuki is still battling for a place in Indian two wheeler market).. dominate and rest are in struggle.., even Yamaha!

    In 90s, every young Indian's dream was owning a Yamaha before his death. But 4 stroke Hero Honda, 'hamara' Bajaj and The first Indian Bike TVS Victor along with stringent emission measures from Indian Govt. diminished Yamaha's glory.

    But Yamaha fights bravely. The company decided to retain its image and the result is YZF-R15!

    @7thgear

    Yamaha Fazer has been already launched in India, in 2004!
    Yamaha YZF-R15 launch picsin Madras! -846840

    But it's 125cc
    Link: Launch News

    Fazer is confusing word here so please burden us

    @Desiboy
    Nickatnite is neither a motorcycle enthusiast nor regular Indian biker, dont expect more from him. He confessed already..
    Meanwhile, i will continue with pics from the launch....so, you guys can see for yourselves, especially motorbike enthusiasts!. I am not one, as evident from my post.lolz!
    @Nickatnite
    Hayabusa was on display in Chennai on April 2007. I was there...

    But there's no official launch till now. These are just like a concept car in an expo.

    Desiboy may be little impolite but he's right.

    UPDATE..

    R15

    Passing on the “R series” DNA
    - Humachine Technologies & Sensual Racing Form -

    The YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 are equipped with under cowls that are based on the image of a diffuser, to give them the best form for aero-management. These are not cowls for simply enclosing the engine, but forms composed of blade surfaces that actively control airflow. This spirit has been directly inherited by the YZF-R15.

    “Harmony between rider and machine.” YAMAHA's Human Technology involves studying the form of the motorcycle actually in motion with the rider on it. The R series is the embodiment of 1) a wide frontal space that protects the rider, 2) an easy to ride seating area that gives riders the freedom of movement and allows them to steer effectively, 3) the glamorous tail treatment that takes into account the management of airflow behind the rider, and 4) a sensual racing form that brings all 3 of these elements together in a harmonious package. These characteristics have been splendidly reproduced in the YZF-R15.

    Additionally, the designs were developed in the same modeling room where YZF-R1 designers worked. Information was shared, ensuring that the R lineage would be transmitted. In addition, the model also incorporates a multitude of adjustments for the Indian market including seat shape that allows for tandem riding (integrated with the main seat), tandem grips that are easy to grip and also contribute to the supersport design, and a riding position that takes into account comfort, etc. In other words, the YZF-R15 is characterized by a hybrid design that combines the world-class design of the “R” series with localized functions. The YZF-R15 was created to lead the supersport category in India.

    Dreary weather, slighty tipsy camera man (then or later :-) ), and oh the sin of missing out on pics of the "dancing girls !!" my my what is this world coming to !! :-):-):-)

    But seriously tho @nickatnite another great post from you, must say I always look forward to wading through the zillions of pics you upload. Thanks mate.

    On a slightly different note Suzuki cars have come back here after an absence of many years and have launched the new Swift and some other models. I like the new Swift its kinda cool and the pricing is good too. I was thinking of going for a test drive one of these days and if I like it that much maybe trading in my old Opel Corsa for it.
