Daihatsu Charade, a mini car produced by a Japanese automaker from 1977 to 2000. According to Daihatsu, it is a large compact car. Daihatsu Charade replaced Daihatsu Consorte and later Charade was replaced with Daihatsu Storia. The life of Charade is divided into four generations, where the first generation starts from 1977-1983, second generation from 1983-1987, third generation from 1987-1993 also known as Anda Charade and fourth generation from 1993-2000.
The vehicle played a significant role in the auto market of Pakistan. It was one of the first cars to be imported into Pakistan and gain so much fame. The vehicle proved itself with its reliability and durability. The vehicle had been involved in different racing and drift competition in the international market, which further strengthened the image of it.
Talking about the popular models in Pakistan, the second and the third generation models were the most popular Charade found in the market. The second generation had a variety of engines with 993cc CL (normal and turbo diesel) and 993cc CB (standard and turbo petrol). The third generation had an addition of 1295cc engine however it was not popularly seen in Charades in Pakistan.
There are no more brand new charades in the market but if you want to purchase one, however, there are plenty of used Daihatsu Charades available in the market. It is very hard to find a clean and a mechanically sound Charade in the market now as the car is in its old age. However, you can find early 80's Charade between a range of Rs. PKR 80,000 - 150,000. Moving up to the years, mid 90's Daihatsu Charade is going to be cost you around Rs. PKR 2.50 - 3.0 lacs.

Suzuki Khyber was an ideal competitor of the vehicle back then as both the vehicles had almost the same engine size. There is no doubt Suzuki Khyber was a car meant to serve unlike hatchbacks available now. The sales of both the vehicles were touching the skies however if Charade wins over Khyber regarding sales, it's only because an imported vehicle and new to the market. It’s is going to be difficult to find a clean Charade or Khyber in the market. However, there are very few ones left in original condition and still doing good.
Back to 90's and early 2000's, the vehicle had a good resale value however with time it decreased as the manufacturer stopped the production of the vehicle and then with the decrease in demand, the people starting to move away preferred other vehicles. If you notice the Pakistani market closely, every successful vehicle in its introduction phase is used by families however once the families are done with the cars, there are the youngsters who purchase the vehicles and make it their dream car.
Charade was not only popular because the vehicle was reliable and durable but it had a capacity for engine swaps and turning out to be a sweet little beast. If you go a couple of years back, the racing tracks of Pakistan, notably Karachi and Lahore were full of Charade with God knows the amount of alteration done to them. People had installed engines of a proper sports car and were ready to hit a race even with a Rx-7 and Supra.
As mentioned, there were just two generations readily available in the Pakistani market, however, further comparing these two generations, the third generation which is Daihatsu Charade 1987 (popularly known on the race track as “Anda”) was popular amongst racers as it had two door variants also available and already good grip.
