Based on the Alto, the Lapin is one of Suzuki's most distinctive cars. Decorated with pictures of rabbits to celebrate its name (rabbit translates into lapin in French), it has a unique feel few British alternatives can match.

Following the trend of retro-bodied models such as the new MINI and Volkswagen Beetle, the simple Lapin boasts Seventies looks reminiscent of those of the popular Mini Clubman. Fire the engine, and the Lapin settles to a speedy idle. Sounding more like an electric drill than a turbocharged petrol motor, the three-cylinder unit feels very eager to rev. With 85Nm of torque on offer, the car is surprising-ly swift, and its automatic box channels power to the road smoothly.

Little small wheel-drive machine proved great fun to drive, too. it offers a surprisingly comfortable ride with the brakes are more than up to the job of slowing the vehicle.
