Honda Atlas Cars Limited (HCAR) has confirmed it will introduce a hybrid vehicle in Pakistan, marking a major step in the company’s local lineup. The model will also debut Honda Sensing, the brand’s advanced driver-assistance system, for the first time in the country.
The announcement was made at HCAR’s annual general meeting, where President and CEO Masaya Wakuda addressed shareholder concerns about the lack of hybrid offerings. Wakuda said Honda would leverage its global hybrid expertise, particularly from the U.S. market, to serve Pakistani customers.
Honda Sensing to Debut Locally, Raising the Safety Bar
Alongside hybrid technology, the new model will feature Honda Sensing, a suite of smart safety and driver-assist tools such as lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation systems.
Wakuda highlighted that this would set a new standard for safety in Pakistan’s passenger car market.
Competitive Landscape
The move comes as rival automakers strengthen their green technology investments. Toyota Pakistan recently pledged $100 million toward local hybrid initiatives, signaling growing competition in the segment.
Policy and Taxation Push for Hybrids
Honda management confirmed that the current Automobile Policy will remain valid until June 2026.
Meanwhile, the government has imposed a 1–2% carbon tax on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and increased sales tax on small cars from 8.5% to 18% to encourage hybrid and electric adoption.
Industry Outlook
These developments align with Pakistan’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–30, which aims to cut emissions, reduce reliance on fuel imports, and promote sustainable mobility. Analysts say Honda’s entry will expand consumer choice and push the sector toward faster electrification.
