Honda City Beat Toyota Yaris in 2022
In 2020, Toyota Yaris came to Pakistan and dominated the B-segment sedan market right away. Honda City had long been reigning in this segment, but as Honda was only offering the 5th generation City, it fell behind the latest Toyota Yaris and Honda City beat Toyota Yaris!
For a year, the Toyota Yaris reigned supreme as Pakistan’s best-selling sedan, but the aging 11th-generation Toyota Corolla reclaimed the crown. Despite the fact that Corolla sales have been cut in half since the introduction of the Yaris, and 1.3L Corolla variants have been discontinued in favor of the B-segment offering, the C-segment Toyota Corolla remains the country’s best-selling sedan.
However, since the 6th-generation City debuted in mid-2021, the B-segment sedan category has moved back to loving the new Honda, and once again, Honda City beat Toyota Yaris. Despite being a globally obsolete model, it was arguably more attractive than the odious Yaris. And the results are now in Honda City’s favor. The 6th generation Honda City outsold the Toyota Yaris by 19,860 units in the calendar year 2022, averaging 1,655 units per month.
In comparison, the Toyota Yaris sold 15,507 units in 2022, with a monthly average of 1,292 units. As a result, Honda City sales were 28% higher than Toyota. In its prime, the Yaris sold around 2,900 units per month, outselling the combined number of Civic and City sold in a month. According to the most recent data, Yaris sales have dropped by 55%.
Indus Motor Company (IMC) continues to sell the pre-facelift version of the third-generation Toyota Yaris in Pakistan, despite the fact that the Yaris has now entered its fourth generation internationally. However, in markets where the third generation is still available, the facelift version is sold, with Pakistan being the only market that sells the pre-facelift version.
Do you think the Indus Motor Company will launch this new facelifted Yaris here soon, or do the prevalent economic conditions indicate otherwise? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
