Feb’21 Car Sales: Suzuki Alto Wins The Highest Selling Car
Pakistani auto industry has been on the rise since the beginning of this year. The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) has posted the car sales report for February 2021. As per the PAMA report, car sales saw a healthy growth in Feb’21. Here are the details.
Year-on-Year Car Sales in February 2021
As per PAMA report, Pakistani auto industry sold a total of 16,436 car units in February 2021. Compared to the sales figure for the same month of last year (Feb 2020), year-on-year car sales increased by 35%.
Pak Suzuki Motors took the sales lead with 8,903 cars in Feb 2021 with Suzuki Alto as its best seller for the month. Compared to the sales in Feb 2020, the company saw YoY growth of 66%.
Toyota Indus Motors came second with 4,384 car sales in Feb 2021. Compared to the sales in Feb 2020, the company saw YoY decrease of 3%.
Kia Motors outperformed Honda (again!) and came third with around 2,500 cars sold in Feb 2021.
Honda Atlas, one of the Big 3 companies in Pakistan, came 4th second time in a row with 2,429 car sales in Feb 2021. Compared to the sales in Feb 2020, the company saw YoY growth of 13%.
Hyundai Nishat sold 651 cars during Feb 2021 and scored an impressive month-on-month (MoM) growth of 26%. Way to go Hyundai!
Passenger Car Sales
In the passenger cars segment, Toyota Yaris remained the best-selling car with 2,566 units sold in Feb 2021. Toyota Corolla, once again, lost its sales big time (68%) with only 1,177 units sold in Feb 2021; the number was 3,715 in Feb 2020. Honda sold 2,192 units of City and Civic, 17% more than the 1,868 units sold in Feb 2020. Suzuki sold 179 Swift units in Jan 2021. Compared to 186 units sold in Jan 2020, the number grew by 3.7%.
SUVs and Jeeps
SUVs and Jeeps won the interest of 1,058 people in Feb 2021 than only 484 in Feb 2020. The comparison of two numbers shows YoY sales growth of 119%.
Among SUVs, Hyundai Tucson took over Toyota Fortuner with 546 sales in Feb 2021. The Fortuner sales number stood at 275 close to Honda BR-V’s 237.
2/3-Wheelers
Overall 154,409 two-wheelers and three-wheelers were sold in Jan 2021, against 139,007 units sold in Feb 2020. That means a growth factor of 11%.
Month-on-Month Car Sales
For the most part, the MoM car sales dropped in Jan 2021. Suzuki Alto topped the MoM sales chart with 11% growth, followed by 6% growth of Honda Civic and City.
Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla, and Suzuki Swift saw a decline of -14%, -23%, and -51% respectively.
