Peugeot 2008 ⚡ KIA Stonic – The Newbies Contest
The first car launch of 2022 is a French B-segment crossover. Peugeot 2008 has officially joined the crossovers and SUVs club with a soft launch. Last night, Lucky Motors revealed the prices and opened the bookings for two variants. If you recall, Lucky Motors had launched another B-segment crossover just a few months ago. Sportage’s younger sibling, KIA Stonic.
We have already done an upcoming car comparison of Peugeot 2008 and KIA Stonic. But that was before the official launch of both cars when we didn’t know their specs, features, or prices. Now that we know everything let’s have a face-off of Lucky Motors’ newly launched B-segment crossovers and see which one’s the real deal.
Both Peugeot 2008 and KIA Stonic have two variants in Pakistan. We’ll be comparing the top variants of both crossovers, i.e., Peugeot 2008 Allure and KIA Stonic EX+.
Size
Dimensione-wise, Stonic is 4140 mm in length, 1760 mm in width, and 1500 mm in height. Peugeot 2008 is 4300 mm long, 1770 mm wide, and 1550 mm tall.
That means Peugeot 2008 is slightly bigger in size and has better seating space than Stonic. Great news for buyers who have an issue with Stonic’s crampedness.
Power
Stonic EX+ is powered by a 1.4L turbocharged engine that produces 99 horsepower and 133 Nm of torque. On the other hand, 2008 Allure comes with a 1.2L turbo engine that produces 130 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. Both crossovers have a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Clearly, Peugeot 2008 has more power than KIA Stonic. So, the former has an advantage over the latter.
Looks
One look at the two crossovers, and you’ll know which one has a bolder appearance. (Hint: the French one)
Peugeot 2008 Allure has a beautiful chrome grille with signature 3-claw LED headlights and DRLs. Stonic EX+ has KIA’s signature tiger-nose grille with LED headlights and DRLs. Allure comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, while EX+ has 16-inch alloy rims. Both have electrically adjustable rearview mirrors.
Maybe it’s because we have already seen other KIA cars, but the Peugeot 2008 is a first for us. We haven’t had any European cars in Pakistan before, and that makes Peugeot 2008 unique and exciting. Not to take it away from Peugeot because the company has brought its A-game.
Features
Diving into the features, we have an 8-inch floating infotainment system in Stonic EX+ with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with voice recognition Bluetooth connectivity. You can even connect two devices simultaneously. The infotainment system in 2008 Allure is 7-inch with Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity.
Both crossovers have automatic climate control system, push start, and smart key entry. The seats in Allure are of premium TEP material with grey stitching. The seats in EX+ are made of fabric and artificial leather material with yellow accents. Both cars have a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat.
Some add-ons in the Peugeot 2008 are panoramic sunroof, ice-blue ambient lighting, and wireless trunk opener.
Safety
Both cars have six airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), ABS with EBD, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Electric Parking Brake (EPB), cruise control, and rear parking sensors.
The French crossover is safer than its South-Korean counterpart with features such as High Beam Assist (HBA), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Assist, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Front Parking Sensor.
Price
The price difference between the two B-segment crossovers is huge. The newly launched Peugeot 2008 Allure comes with a price tag of Rs. 5,850,000, whereas the KIA Stonic EX+ has a price tag of Rs. 3,980,000.
Peugeot 2008 is a premium crossover compared to KIA Stonic. Lucky Motors has brought this European car for SUV lovers who are all about luxury. Stonic, on the other hand, is for everyone who wants to buy a crossover in the price of Corolla and Civic. Makes sense, but wherever they fall on the crossovers and SUVs spectrum (basic or luxury), we still think both cars are overpriced.
That’s about it. The detailed comparison of two crossover newbies. Which one has a better chance of winning the Pakistani buyers? Peugeot 2008 or KIA Stonic, which Lucky Motors’ new offering has more potential? Share your thoughts in the comments.
