Question Fuel Consumption of Toyota Corolla SE Saloon 2002 Automatic 1600 cc on CNG

I have just bought a Corolla SE Saloon 2002 Automatic 1600 cc and the CNG tank is filled for Rs. 600. It gives me about 75 kilometres with AC. The car is usually driven between cantt. station and p.e.c.h.s. Can this fuel consumption be improved greatly to give at least 90 km ?

My other question to members of this forum with the same model car is how good is your fuel consumption ?

thats very very bad fuel average. you can get 11+km / litre fuel average on petrol. please read my signature line gather all data and come back to forum you may get plenty of input to improve CNG per tank average.

On CNG it should at least do 120 and talking about petrol it should do 10/liter with ac.

Wow qwertypoiu and capsat, quick replies!

Thanks for the tip and hope (a 1600 cc car going 120km on a full tank on AC would be awesome)

Anyways, I browsed to the link mentioned in your signature line and I guess you are asking me to gather the following information:

    1. please state make & model of car
Toyota Corolla SE Saloon 2002 1600 cc
    2. how long you own it and what is odometer reading at time of problem
I bought it a month ago but the car has been in the workshops for various reasons. I somehow managed to get its head gasket burned, it's water body destroyed so the car had to spend more than a week in the workshop. Had to spend about 30k to fix stuff including AC.
    3. what maintenance schedule if followed
    Not sure.
    3. actual problem occurance - on CNG or Liquid fuel.
I don't run this car much on petrol but it's CNG consumption is about 75 km with full CNG tank, which I think is very poor.
    4. where you & your vehicle is actually located (as some members forum location is different then actual location)
I live near Cantt. Station and work at Tariq road.

    1. The mechanic told me that he bought the water body for 3.000 from Plaza and not from Shershah.
    2. I'll have to check that and will get back to you.
    3. Tap water.
    4. When the car was in the workshop, the guy changed the filters and replaced the motor oil.
    5. Odometer reading is at 80,000 km.

Thanks for the follow up, dude.

engine oil oil filter is different - auto transmission box also have a fluid filter which require replacment every 40,000 kms. if it clogged the performance will not be optimum. also post the 1st 5 number of engine to ascertain if the engine have timing belt or timing chain. If it is a timing belt that also need change after every 80,000km. for TAP water in cooling system flush out tap water and start using coolant prepared in bottled water 50/50 ratio 1.5 litre aquafina - 750 ml of pure coolant mixed is right coolant type use this ratio to prepare required qty of coolant. read this THREAD

    capsat:

    1. So you are telling me to replace the 'auto-transmission fluid filter'.
    2. First 5 numbers of engine are: 09512
    3. Ok, I'll replace the tap water with a mix of coolant + aquafina

    zeegee63:
Dude, I have got my car checked by mechanics and they say nothing is wrong. It's just a big car and 1600cc that is why it is giving 75km/tank of CNG.

Thanks capsat for all the sincere help and I'll look forward to getting more help from guru Xulfiqar. Meanwhile, I'll keep you posted about the progress.

    Thanks again!

yes please replace transmission fluid & filter both.
    1. 1st five are with alphabets like 3ZZFE that is engine type - engine code. you may also find it punched on black manifold in engine bay
    2. a 1600 CC shall give you approx 100+ on a 55KG cylinder
    3. Before flushing the cooling system check for thermostat valve in place & cooling fans operation on automatic.
    4. Punch your mechanic in belly if he whine about placing thermostat back will over heat the car.
    5. Note temp gauge position now & then after doing the flush & fans working automatic with aircon.
    -
    6. Now the CNG side when was the CNG cylinder tested - if it is not been done in last five years, get it cleaned & tested. Cylinder may also contain oil
    7. ask your CNG shop to open gas regulator in engine bay and drain oil from it.
    8. next is throttle body cleaning & gas flow re-adjustment.

do the above steps at your convenience, and post back the results on this forum thread

I just contacted my mechanic and he confirms the following:

    1. thermostate is in place.
    2. fan is on automatic
    3. throttle body was cleaned

When I told him that a complete empty tank was filled in 610 rupees he told me that that my car has a 50 kg cylinder (and not a 55kg one, otherwise it would have taken around 700+ rupees). He said that there is no way a 1600 cc car can give 100+ km on a 50kg cylinder and assured me that 75km/tank is excellent consumption of this car.

So the remaining action items for me are the following:

    1. Change transmission fluid and filter.
    2. Drain the radiator and will it with coolant + aqua find combo
    3. Get my CNG cylinder checked for leakage and oil deposits (I have no idea how to that. Can anyone point me to the right direction ?)
    4. I'll go to CNG shop again and ask them to open gas regulator in engine bay and drain oil from it, if it's there.

My corolla 03 Se Saloon Auto is on petrol and gives between 8-9 KM/litre within city.
No way it will ever give 10-11 or + km/litre in Karachi.
It is on petrol so cannot comment on CNG consumption.

Fair enough that's very logical. The cylinder capacity makes the difference. For cylinder testing read HERE you can do the routine maintenance and keep track of that for future. Good Luck.

what should be the approx km/litre of 2004 SE Saloon Manual? Well maintained and timely oil changes etc. and only driven on petrol
Almost everyone in Pakistan is doing corruption to the extent they can. Our leaders are doing at the level they can do. So why should we complain?

capsat: I just returned from a CNG shop and they guys spent about 2 hours and did the following for Rs. 1,500:

    1. tuning.
    2. cng-kit service
    3. cylinder service.
    4. air filter change.

The service centre told me that there were oil in kit and cylinder that they removed. He told me that cylinder is not 55kg, not even 50kg, it is a 60 kg one and a full cylinder should 'now' give 100 km with AC. I have yet to verify this!

PKTUN: that is quite possible. It was Karachi CNG at KDA chowrangi North nazimabad who claimed to be officially testing cog cylinders.
