Default Greatwall Florid- a perfect vitz+ist ripoff!!

i posted the following thread nearly 3 years back when the car wasn't actually into production and wasn't named back then, now when its officially selling, there can be a fresh thread instead of bumping a 3 year old thread... this is the link to the previous thread (for those who may claim a repost)

now the real story, the Greatwall Florid...

Great Wall Motor officially launched its Florid on November 6th. The carmaker announced that the 1.3L Florid luxury edition is priced at 53,900 yuan ($7,903) and the elegant edition is priced at 57,900 yuan.

Florid, as the second small car after Peri from Great Wall Motor, is powered by the 1.3L VVT gasoline engine developed by the carmaker itself. The 1.3l engine, able to produce 65kw and 115 nm, has met the Euro IV standards.

The Florid also comes packed with goodies that the Peri didnt get, such as automatic air conditioner, LED lights, remote smart key, DVD player, and GPS, and then the usual standard equipment such as ABS and EBD. It is a 5-door compact sedan with two rows of seats, and the rear row has foldaway seats which can give the interior a feel of larger space.

Great Wall Motor, China's largest maker and exporter of pickups and SUVs, has made its foray into the small-car segment. The carmaker had unveiled its first small car Peri which was sued by Fiat in China and in Europe over the design of the Peri model which is seen as a clone of the current Fiat Panda.

Great Wall has the ambitious plan to export the new model to Europe. The car would be sold in Italy first and in the rest of Europe, though it is blamed as a rip-off of the Toyota IST/scion xA model by the foreign media.

1.5 vvt & sports version were also launched earlier this year:
February 20, 2009, the Great Wall VVT all-aluminum 1.5L models listed, Deluxe Edition Price 59900, 63900 elite edition, skylights Version 68900, they will fight side by side with the 1.3L Behind, in the A-class car market with the joint brand rivals.

A professional in-depth analysis of ""1.5LVVT aluminum alloy engine"" Behind after the characteristics of its evaluation: 1.5 Behind the high-end driving force, the low-end price, and power strong, aluminum VVT technology leader.

This independently researched and developed by the Great Wall Automobile adopting international advanced technology GW4G15 aluminum alloy gasoline engines, taking into account the low-speed high-torque, high-speed high-power characteristics, to achieve the perfect power output, 4200 to achieve maximum torque 138N.m , 6000 to produce rated power 77kW.

This engine matches the sleek, get plenty of power output, easily overtaking acceleration. Professionals said, when you side-by-side overtaking each other is also not super-accelerated general very dangerous at this time, it is this critical moment in order to experience the advantages of high-speed torque. Some engines are simply high-torque low-speed city started fast, but GW4G15 aluminum alloy engine that takes care of high-speed high-power characteristics, in 2500 transferred to the output maximum torque of 90%, so not only the initial fast 1.5L Behind 50-100 km of this phase is the instantaneous speed up its advantage, 50-100 Abulimiti speed only 5.9 seconds, a few seconds the outbreak of the ""Super Mario"" will have a strong sense of pushing back, making side by side overtaking whim.

Behind 1.5L engine with Fox, Mazda 6 (configuration parameters Gallery), etc. into the exhaust manifold models similar to the anti-home design, traditional layout of subversion into the exhaust manifold, so that the exhaust manifold under the engine after the catalytic converter device made as close as possible to the engine, reducing exhaust resistance, improve the performance of exhaust gas purification. Placed in front of the intake manifold is therefore achieved a higher oxygen content to ensure that the combustion efficiency and improve fuel economy, reduced emissions of pollution. Behind the match in the actual test 60km / h constant speed fuel consumption only 4.03L/100km, than with low-emission vehicle fuel consumption 25 percent or more to reach the EU IV emission standards.

At the same time, silent timing chain and POLO and other models is not easy when compared to teeth with skidding, engine timing precise, job stability, and effective to avoid tooth fracture with aging, resulting in the top piston valve intake system brought about by injury, which has a long life, easily broken, such as job stability advantages. In good maintenance, the chain of life equivalent to the engine life, avoiding the replacement of annoyance, extended engine life, reduced cost.

GW4G15 a new generation of gasoline engine cars are independently researched and developed the Great Wall Automobile crystallization, high pressure casting aluminum alloy airframe than the cast iron cylinder models is 20% lighter and has a light weight, long life, low noise characteristics. Excellent structural rigidity aluminum alloy with excellent thermal conductivity, making a longer engine life, better heat dissipation. Continuously variable valve timing (VVT) technology and electronic throttle control system, be able to open the valve on the engine, turn off the time and into the continuous air-conditioning, in order to adapt to different terrain in the engine intake requirements, improve engine power and optimized torque curve at the same time, excellent fuel economy.

DIS (DirectIgnitionSystem) direct ignition technology, the ignition time with accurate, high ignition energy, the overall three major characteristics of high reliability to ensure the best engine in the state of work, which may help to enhance power and fuel efficiency. Double overhead camshaft, 16-valve structure with the conventional rear-mounted engine is compared to be able to effectively improve the efficiency of engine intake, bringing the power upgrade.

E-gas electronic throttle design, to achieve precise control of power, reduce emissions and fuel consumption and improve driving pleasure and comfort, more engine protection. Materials reinforced nylon intake manifold wall is very smooth, intake was significantly higher than the efficiency of metal air intake manifolds, and at the same time be able to make further lightweight engine, bringing fuel efficiency, but also to enable more air intake sound To clear pleasant.

In addition, 1.5L Behind the continuation of ""do it"" line, the appearance of fashion beautiful and spacious, configuration rich, comprehensive quality were lower than the challenge will be a joint venture brands of similar models. Level in the same car, it is the only use of international brands Autoliv airbag, electronic pretightening belts, Bosch's most advanced sophisticated version 8.0 of the ABS + EBD models. ""Cage""-style security body, the unique design of structural safety guarantee the security of the members.

It is reported that in January 3600 sales Behind realize, because of Chinese New Year holiday, the current inventory to zero not only manufacturers, but also ""owed"" the dealer orders for more than 1700 vehicles. 1.3L Behind in the trial test drive process, a lot of users of this car look and configuration, but also indicated their motivation was even more robust, more fuel-efficient models expectations. Therefore, the models listed 1.5VVT Behind set off a new round of sales will boom.

crash test ratings have nothing to do with where it is for sale.

ok a bit of correction here..

actually i read this article about a month back regarding crash tests performed on utes from two different marques, namely GreatWall and Proton.. So I got things a bit mixed up. It was actually the ute from Proton that scored 1 on the rating scale, while GreatWall scored just 2 (again not a very satisfactory result)..

Excerpts from the article:

Quote:

The Malaysian-made Proton Jumbuck, at $14,990 one of Australia's cheapest utility vehicles and advertised as "the toughest little half-tonner in town", scored just one star out of five.
and about the GreatWall:

Quote:

The Chinese maker has two models available: the $19,990 SA220 ute which is an older design and is not equipped with airbags, and the $23,990 V240 ute which is a newer design and is equipped with airbags. Both scored two stars out of five because the airbags in the newer vehicle did little to prevent the driver dummy head from striking the steering wheel..
