It's been a while since i looked at the local car scene here in Chennai as i've been traveling a bit and i decided to do just that today.What prompted me was a visit to a local 'lifestyle' expo where there were the latest cars and some bikes(either new or revised versions) sold locally displayed which was a surprise. So, a brief thread on the most popular cars sold in the Chennai auto market is what this is. Take a look see at some popular Middle India's drives, if you will.

Sometimes, manufacturers do listen to the voice of the people. At Rs5.5lacs on road and now available off the shelf in Chennai. Has aircon too!

The SX4 automatic is now available locally but with a beige interior. I would have preferred black. And, i messed up pics of the all new Ertiga MPV and D'Zire sedan. I'll take better pics at a showroom shortly as both these cars have struck a cord with Mr/Mrs Middle India. Sales of these models have been brisk since they were released in the market.

Big news from Brio world?. The intro of a diesel version, Honda's first for the Indian market. The petrol Brio is selling well enough, i might add 'cause it's reasonably priced and oozes Honda quality too.

Hyundai caters exclusively to the middle classes. The i-10 and Santro Xing are due to be replaced soon and these are the latest cars in the lineup, including the new Sonata which wasn't on display.

Locally made Yamahas in above pics and the SZ-R is the new commuter bike , reasonably priced at RS57,000 and the midship at RS67,000.

Make the rear lights look like jewels, increase the height and suddenly the City is loved once again. Sales are brisk.



The only Altis i like in D4D trim and loved by fleet operators too!

This was a Maruti-Suzuki display and there was a Ritz in it, but who was checking it out?. No one.

The new Metro Rail system coming up in Chennai is like a giant slug worming it's way through the city digging up everything in it's path. Driving around now is painful, especially after a break and i take a day to get back in form. So this is more kvetch than anything else. I will post clear and detailed views of the Maruti Ertiga and D'Zire as soon as i take pics of these cars which is also one of the reasons for this thread. cya
