If you look at the 1st pic the Test Car plates say TN(state of Tamil Nadu- Tamil country) capital of which is Madras(Chennai).Ford has it's mega Indian factory in Chennai. Figure the connection. The current XC90 has three engine options – the D5 diesel , a 3.2-litre 6-cylinder petrol and the range-topping 4.4-litre V8 on test here.

The four-cylinder powerplant in the E 220 CDI is the first diesel engine in which Mercedes has used counter-balancing to further enhance vibration response.Like the V8 diesel engine in the S-Class, the 2148cc power plant is now fitted with a VNT turbocharger with electrically adjustable guide vanes. This technology enables even more dynamic and precise supercharging than the previous vacuum-controlled system. The effect of this is a faster build-up of the charge pressure at low revs, and therefore substantially more pulling power.

Standing kilometre comes up in 32.50s at 165.6kmph, again a quantum jump over the figures for the W210 model. Even the top speed is better and we recorded 209kmph on our Racelogic test equipment as compared to the 198kmph that the W210 had registered on the Datron test equipment.
What makes the driving performance very high calibre are the torque characteristics of this engine. High torque is available from the bottom of the rev range and right across it. This is what makes the roll-on figures very low indeed.

SKODA OCTAVIA RS....made in India,The sportiest Octavia from the factory.The Octavia RS does a sub-9second 0-100kmph dash despite the tuned-down engine for India, which in return delivers astonishing mileage.The turbocharged 1800 cc engine runs a lower compression ratio of 9.5:1 and churns out a maximum of 150PS at 5700rpm and 210Nm of torque that is available across a wide rev range from 1750rpm right up till 4600rpm.

I gotta add some. Thankfully , no boring meetings today. I am at my desk and can troll a bit on the net now and then!. Continuing with what's hot...Hyundai sold 9000 plus of these critters in India, in the month of June!. That's why it deserves another mention
