Default Project Mini: 1961 Morris Mini Minor

Hey all,

This thread is dedicated to the restoration of my first car, a 1961 Morris Mini Minor, simply 'Mini' for convenience.

My infatuation with vintage and classic cars goes far back, how far even i'm not sure of.But this story starts with summer vacations and two of my closest friends, enthusiastic car knuts themselves and fellow pakwheelers, saadsmalik and bilaltq, heres a shoutout to both of you,YOU'RE THE BEST FRIENDS EVER!!

I found this car on pakwheels in the summer of 2007.thankyou for finding it bilal and since then its been with me,although the project didn't start till last month, which was partly due to studies and disencouragement from my peers.yes, all of you critics are worthless and should buy and restore mehrans, because at least they sell!!.ridicuolous

As with all passions, there isn't much rational explanation to the time and effort spent on these cars and i feel theres no need.this is a warning to all those people who think its a waste of time and money and whatnot

STAY OUT!! this place is not for you(and believe me-i'm being polite here)

from here on, i shall let the pictures tell the story, feel free to comment/suggest and this thread goes with a call out to everyone and anyone who can help me find parts for this car in pakistan, key word being pakistan.

Towing to the Denter's

the steering and breaks were left in place when the engine and ancilliaries were taken out.

those who're wondering why a mini is at the height of a bolan dabba, and think the mini's been fitted with the bolan's suspension-are indeed right, the car had been fitted with an 800 cc suzuki engine, off of a japanese mehran and the suspension fitted was a hybrid across almost all of the suzuki range, khyber.mehran,dabba.

later pictures will clearly point out where the dastardly alterations had been made.

the pictures above show a red mini, the car in question belongs to a fellow mini-mista and is being used to refer to as an original and accurate sample of the scpecies.both the cars.mine and the red one are mk1,there are minor differences in mk1 and mk2 mini's while the later mk3 and mk4 mini's show considerable deviations from the spartan lay out and accessories, but all in all the body shell remains more or less the same(looks the same, only the trained eye or researched mind can tell the difference).

the Mini's subframes, both front and rear had been cut and distorted,as if someone gave a kindergarten kid a pair of scissors.my advice:never let such things happen;both the three year old and ridiculous modifications which achieve the converse of what they set out to,yes ride comfort is not a highlight of the dry rubber cone suspension but the genius suzuki hybrid makes the car like a tonga, the car and suspension separate when you go over a speed breaker.for any and every classic car restorer/aspirant,please,dont try any modifications, the car just doesnt stay the same.

below you see pictures of the frame that was salvaged from the mini and pictures of the original frame.the difference is clear but let me point out that only one side of the rectangular frame was original, the other three;including the front piece were fixed on and probably belonged to a mehran in some lifetime.

the original frame(front)

the salvaged frame(front)

the original frame(rear)

the salvaged frame(rear),notice the cutting done, pointless damage.

repair in progress

I didn't truly realize the height of the mini's suspension till I looked at that picture. I don't know if it was me, but it seemed 'okay' when i saw it back in Pakistan.

Waiting for more updates. Sorry I couldn't talk to you today- had to leave for work.
