well electrical engineering and computer science coupled with a long history of making Jeeps. All you need :). Details are as follows:
Design is a 72V Series wound ADC motor (18hp continuous). 6 x 12v Lead Acid batteries (for now). Curtis 96v Motor controller with a 0-5ohm pot box accelerator pedal. A chinese DC-DC (72v -] 12v) convertor to power the lights, horn , wipers etc. A chinese 72v Rapid 3Kw battery charger.
I might replace the lead acid batteries with LiFePo4 batteries which would be much more expensive but give me more range, power and smaller charging time. LiFePo4 also come in a 'briefcase' arrangement and can be easily replaced (with a charged battery pack for example)
I have fabricated a die-cast aluminum coupling to couple the original mehran gear housing to the motor. Its a perfect fit. The original flywheel/pressure plate etc are all there. I might remove the flywheel or replace with a lighter flywheel at a later stage.
Theoretical specs:
Top speed: 80km/h
Max Motor RPM: 6000rpm
Best range: 100km
Charging time: 4-6 hours
The best part about these electric cars is that they are very well suited for stop n go traffic. They consume exactly zero electricity at idle and have a LOT of torque at 0 rpm.
