started cleaning the tunnel yesterday....going again now in a while. I am doing it myself as cant take the nakhraas of this denter/painter community. Plan to work after office hours and get done with rust removal and painting of tunnel in next two days. Some pics...

Thats the only way to get it done - these guys pay no respect to what you say or do. The best way is to get teach them that you can do it too. Then they work proficiently (I dont know why).

I remember long time ago giving a car for a mount fabbing job as I had badly injured my right hand, and the guy was giving me lectures on how the V6 I was putting into the galant was a pain and the mounts need to be this and that.

I said leave it, got a freind to help me and I made the mount frame on cardboard and glue with one hand in bandages - got someone to cut the metal sheets to size - mock up welded them - test fit - little fiddling done - reweld completely - press/bolt in new mounts and put the car on wheels - The same lecture guy stood there and did not bother to even help. I removed the car from his shop the same day.

good to know that you are a 'hands on' guy....but you are right, my painter seems to be going through a menoapause of some kind....has something negative to say to every suggestion.

WOW! mohsin bhai , that was amazing, i have not seen this kind of huge DIY in my life ever, i think i have to meet you(if you are in karachi?) to get some good idea about my 1982 jeep:), as i am also thinking to restore it(since 2months) in an original condition but couldn't get any reliable source to do, as i am not much into cars=/

thanks but most of the work is being done by a body work specialist...I only like to dirty my hands once in a while.

My car's original paint was 'Pastel Green' code L 11. I got this from www.thesamba.com and this is what goes on the car. The shop I buy my paint from has the paint details of old cars and will make this paint for me.

after cleaning the inside of the tunnel with wire brush, then #3 emry paper and manual labour (hand job :P) I have applied a phosphorus based rust converter and leaving it on overnight. It seems to be doing its job....tomorrow I 'll apply epoxy primer and then autoshield which should give it some protection for the times to come.

this rust convertor works excellent, I use it on places that are prone to rust and corrosion to stop it dead. It provides an excellent tacky inert surface to paint too. I even posted some pics of the bottle on PW
