Starting with yet another project even though the current one ( a 1965 Mercedes 220S "fintail") is still underway. Those of you who visit this forum regularly must be familiar with this thread.
This is the second VW restoration I am undertaking. A friend owns this car and has asked me to carry out the work required for him. Being a sucker for saving "down and out" cars destined for the scrap heap, I am gladly taking this on.
The opening pictures showing the " before" and "after" of the red car ( a rare 1969 VW 1500) is a single owner model having been in my family since new. This first resto' was completed in Oct 2011 and took about 18 months.
The blue car is the main subject of THIS thread. Currently the extent of work required is being INITIALLY assessed ( no doubt the assessment will have to be revised!). Basically the car is very restorable although as it hails from Karachi, the tinworm has taken its toll. Even the frame is corroded. Initially, the bodywork is to be carried out along with the paint. During the course of this, mechanical work will be undertaken which will involve a complete brakes and suspension overhaul. Regular posts and pictures of progress will be posted as and when

To this...
And this is the car of the "moment"
good luck with project, subscribed ..
Thankyou
Some photos of the interior incl the roof lining at present
And some that are "up close and personal "!
What a lovely and very complete car, I love the bumpers and the fact that all the window chrome is present, it's tough sourcing this stuff locally.
yes it IS quite complete. Some of the trim will require minor straightening but all of it will need a good buffing. The only foolproof way around would b replacement with new which for now at least, is not on the cards. However, having said that, once the body is all freshly painted, old chrome looks shabby. Bumpers will def be rechromed tho! Now waiting for the holidays to be over after which the strip down and documenting will start.
P.S. I like your status
Sir all the best it's quiet complete and clean with chrome still on it .Which color you or your friend have planned for it ?
Sir please share some pics and history of that 50's American behind Datsun.Seems like some Chevrolet ?
Hello, good to hear from you the interior will be a shade of white similar to the one in the red one. Will decide on the exterior nearer the time of painting.
Yes, it's a 1956 Chevrolet Belair 210, a 4 door sedan. I got the car in 1994 with no engine/ gbox. As per original specs it had a 150cu:in 6 cylinder engine with a 3 speed manual transmission. However, it now has a 283cu:in (4.6litres) V8 with , interestingly, a TWO speed automatic gbox out of a 1966 Chevy caprice which eventually had to be scrapped. Have also had power steering from the donor put in. When i first got the car, it was a two-tone red and white colour combo. It was then repainted solid cream and metallic thistle green. Now the car needs finishing and the interior to be done along with installation of air conditioning. Proper Rims and tyres are also needed.
The car was first registered on oct 31, 1956 and the regn book reads like a novel. The first owner was a star actor of the '50s n '60s called Allauddin, a name only very old timers would remember!
I will get around to completing it eventually! Other projects keep getting in the way
I want this to be added in our Lahore classic car family and please decide something different a eye catcher might be up to you sir
Well that was too quick and a deep detail on it you told me about it a year back i think this was in standing in village before.V8 sounds great!
Sir all the best with it (y)
Am afraid, once this VW is done, it will go to the owner and he does not live in Lahore. However, I myself am looking for a 1960 to 1964 model with the smaller windscrens and if i come across one that is complete and restorable AND at the right price....then there will definitely be an addition
you're right, its the same.....and yes, u can hear each stroke thru the V8 woofle
Well that's bit a sad news for me will keep an eye on beetle's now for you (y)
Good luck with the restoration!
BTW, sorry for being off topic but is that yellow Fairlady Z yours? Did you by any chance buy it from Karachi?
Not at all! Yes the 240Z is mine. It was just a pile of bits when I got it here in Lahore in 2000. The car IS originally from Karachi and has the old 6-digit no. It's one of the infamous Omer Leghari cars which he had commissioned for restoration about a year before I became one of the very few to be able to actually "rescue" it. At the time I had intended to use it as a "parts car" for a very original unmolested 1973 240Z that I already have. However, as this car also came with all regn documents and was basically complete even tho in bits and a WALL had fallen on the body during whatever semblance of "denting" it was undergoing, I decided to "go for broke" and rebuild it.....which is when it got its "ferrari" yellow colour ..
am attaching a picture of the pair, thank you for your interest
Not one but two S30's!? Too good, mashAllah.
These ladies need a separate thread of their own.
Again, thank you. It's the first time I have had these cars referred to by their "technical" name : HS 30 Allow me to indulge, below is the picture of the third one that shares garage space with these two.
A 1983 280ZX 2-seater....an HS 130 to you
NO WAY! You are indeed beyond lucky.
Please I beg of you to start a thread about them, mentioning their history with you and their detailed specifications. I am a die-hard fan of the early Fairlady series and would absolutely love to hear about your trio.
