Abbasi sb,
I have always been afraid to tell it to other people (but i always wished to have a restoration point of my own) being from middle class i cannot fuss with my earning resources, and gamble on it.
Things are not that bad as mentioned in above posts. Compare gujranwala with your bigger cities and there are at least two people who are running quality workshops (are qualified/ educated) and have spent time overseas. But these are too expensive for mehrans, altos and stuff like that. If you start such a set up in islamabad i am sure you will be able to make a big big difference. (perhaps some time you may agree to take me in as an apprentice) paying salaries is also not an issue. I know professor Masood (Late) from UET Lahore (AKA king of bikes) he had all the apprentices gathered around him dying to learn something. He had converted ground floor of his home into workshop and all enthusiasts crowded his workshop.
I am not sure whether you needed to have something cadmium/ zinc plated or you have quoted it just for an example, chrome plating is family business of a friend of mine ( he himself is lecturer) you dont need to have plant of this set up for occasional jobs you can send these things here. In fact a lot of technical expertise is available in gujranwala. Its just like outsourcing (when companies see something is too expensive to purchase and purchasing is not cost effective it is rented)
So sir dont take excuses and go for it.
