As mentioned earlier, I am planning to do some leather renovation on this old car. The seat leather, door panels, foot well trim is the original items this car left the factory with. The plan is not to replace these but to apply leather care products that one would have if the car had been in regular use.
However, since the leather has not been cared for as it should have been, I have to do a bit of additional work to get it to look not as bad as it is now.
First the let me introduce the products and materials I will be using.
The three material from Woolies will be discussed later. First the leather is cleaned using the cleaners and then a liberal amounts of conditioner is applied - 4 to 5 times with about 4 hours in between.
The objective of that treatment is to "force" back some of the oils lost over the 67 years this leather has been on these seats.
I have ordered the following materials from the UK - Leather re-dying kit:
Comprises of an alcohol based cleaner, water based dye and sealing paste
The other item I ordered is a leather crack repair kit:
This comprises of a leather binder and filler
After the leather has been treated with conditioner, the cracks are filled and finally dye is applied.
I tried this on one of the arm rests. Here are the results:
After conditioner, the leather was treated with leather binder followed by crack filler.
More pictures of the same.
Final treatment is the re-dying followed by sealing paste.
