Dear PW members

help chahye dosto

i hav cygnus 2005 facing problem that steering wheel audio control buttons r not working and airbag light is also ON
i hav checked all fuses in engine bay and others but all r OK
also checked connector in steering but all wires r properly connected

i m so confused plz help experts
all other function r OK ...

typical signs of either clockspring broken.or the connectors to n from the clocky not connected/damaged. did anyone open the steering wheel? Did u hear a snap or something like that. I had the same problem when my clockspring was broken. Is the horn working? Go to a good electrician n tell him to check the in and out connections using a voltmeter of the clockspring (phirkee in local lingo) if the connection i.e in n out are not there then ull have to buy a new clocky. Open the airbag n check the connectors. It mite just be loose connections(hope this is the case!)

dear horn is perfectly working ......... only steering wheel buttons r out o order
airbag connectors r also properly connected

what u mean by clockspring ( jo black gol case mein band hoti hai strip did u mean that .. ???? )

Go to NAZIR in sector G-8 they have all kinds of electronic diagnostics/testing facility I'm pretty certain they would find the solution to your problem . Call them 0333-5102262 and 051-2262309 to ask their exact location.

yes the same is called cable reel/clockspring/airbag ignitor/coupling. If it was just the buttons it couldve been the circuits. As u mentioned the airbag light also i suspect its the clockspring as i think the circuit is not passing through that clockspring.an electirician would better diagnose it by using the ohm meter to see if connections are passing through. A point to remember whenever to open anhy steering wheel is that the clockspring has a flexistrip wound like a spring in grandfather clocks(hence the name clockspring). It has limited rotations both right n left.if u accidentally spin it n then reaatach the steering, then it will snap from inside when u turn the steering to one side. It happened with me as i thought it didnt have limited rotations. As far as the airbag light is concerned if any of the SRS components are disconnected, it will light up. I think the airbag mte be disconnected. Did anyone open the steering?did it just happen all of a sudden or after any repair work?

you pray clockspring isnt damaged as its a simple n small thing but costs alot! Reborn's cost near 10k from honda. If it happens so that u need the cable reel then try the scrappies first. It can vary in price to a great extent from 200 to 10-15k coz its not a routine item that needs replacement.n our scrappies are kings n can demand whatever they feel like. Some mite give it for nearly free n others more expensive then new! First diagnose the problem in a sequence.check fuses once again,then the clockspring connections,using a voltmeter get it checked that the connections are passing out of the clockspring from the other side etc. If all ok then proceed with other diagnostics such as the switches etc

yes once it opened for some work after that steering buttons r not working and light is ON
how much it cost u when u chang the clock spring ????

i suspected that as its quite a robust thing n seldomn gets out of order unless mishandled. Here is the pics of my civics clockspring which got broke. See the pinouts on both ends.this carries all the electrical signals from steering wheel to the back. If this wasnt there then all the wires woudve got tangled up when we turn the steering wheel n snap. Its a smart n simple innovation.

the front end rotates with the steering whereas the rear is static. A few pics of the inside of the clockspring for every1s understanding

the above pics are of a DIY where u can see the snapped flexi ribbon.i repaired mine by getting the flex cable soldered from an audio guy for Rs 100 only in the same way..but i fixed it myself in the same manner n was used in my civics steering. But i did not connect the airbag as its sensitive n a slight trigger could deploy the airbag. If u can somehow tape the solder in such a way that both points dont ever meet then it can work just as previously.but the flex ribbon is heavily greased to allow the flex ribbon to manoevre inside freely n it was difficult for the tape to stay in place. So in the end bought a new clockspring.

replace the clockspring - its pretty dangerous business playing with an airbag - when that deploys - it has enough velocity to break your neck.

+1 !! Read ur post where u told us a Honda Accord owner had put those seat belt locker thing n the airbags deployed n broke the drivers neck n was killed on the spot u witnessed it urself in Karachi if im not wrong. Never mess around with the airbag.

Yes - I did, and I got the shivers when I saw someone disabling a seat belt reminder by inserting a spare belt tongue into the clasp after that incident.

@Xulfiqar bhai, so what you're saying is that airbags deploy only when the seatbelt is worn ? I'm assuming inserting a spare belt tongue into the clas = seatbelt worn
