Hi guys, yesterday morning I tried to turn on my Toyota Corolla GLi 2010 Model and it wouldn't start. I immediately though maybe it's a battery issue, so I turned on the headlights, indicators and the stereo one by one and all were working fine. I then checked the battery terminals and the water level again everything fine but the car didn't start.
I then started it with "dhaka" since my car is manual and it started quickly with ease, then drove around 13 KM to college and came back after 4 hours and again same thing, the car only started with "dhaka", then I took the car straight to Toyota Garden Motors and got it checked.
He first turned off the car and tried starting it again, it started although I was expecting it would not start if it's a battery issue. Then he inspected the battery holes with a flash-light while switching the car off and on again and again with the head-lights turned on. Then he concluded that the battery is dead because it's boiling the acid/water and it's not retaining any charge. I asked him if it could be any other faulty part like the alternator or lose battery terminals, but he insisted me to replace the battery.
I came home as I wanted to investigate this a bit myself and surely even today in the morning the car only started with "dhaka"
I purchased this car second hand back in Feb/Mar last year and I think the car still has the original factory battery installed in it but not sure. The current battery is 12V and 46A AGS battery.
So I'd like to get your expert advice on the following things:
1) Is this really a battery problem and not an issue of alternator or some other faulty electrical part? Because everything like the headlights, indicators, power locks, alarm system, lcd, stereo get power, just the car isn't starting. And the Toyota mechanic didn't use any tools to test the acidity of the battery like the UPS guys usually check batteries.
2) Should I go with a dry battery or liquid battery???
3) Which company battery is recommended as per your experience???
4) How many Volts an Amps battery should I use with my car???
5) A few good place to purchase this battery and service in Lahore???
Thanks a bunch in advance!
