thanks all. there is no difference in appearance of 4AFE and 5AFE. 4AFE is 1.6L and 5AFE is 1.5L. both are narrow angle DOHC EFI engines. the ECM of both have different part numbers with clear mention of the engine but i've heard from the electrician doing the wiring that both are interchangeable. a slight difference in the distributors too but even they are also said to be interchangeable. the difference of piston displacement, well nobody can tell.
a sticker on accessories side (above main pulley) will be clearly marked as 4A or 5A. but they are missing or torn in most of the cases. i was lucky to have it intact.
one definite way of telling the difference is by seeing the engine serial number. the engine serial number will start with 5A, 4A, 2E etc for the respective engine series.
performance wise there should be some difference. very minute may be. like i think there is a difference of 10-12 hp.
@BHAILOGE
well bother. i've got receipt of engine with serial number. i still have to go through the engine number change process at the registration office. but i guess it won't be much of a problem coz a lot of ppl do the engine swaps. may be some one who's gone through this process can enlighten us.
