Salam to all Pakwheelers...
I want to narrate an incident happened to me yesterday (12 Aug 2014, 6:00 PM).
On my way back from work (I I Chudrigar road), I was stuck in a severe traffic jam at main Jehangir road (between Gurumandir and Teen Hatti). We came to know that residents of Martin Quarters are protesting over loadshedding. All I can see was burning tyres, pelted stones scattered all over the road, screaming mob. Anyone who was trying to move a bit was threatened that his bike/car will be burnt if he does not stop. It was a peak rush hour of 6pm and most of the people were returning from work. Suddenly, two youths entered from the front, having a 9mm pistol, and started looting the motorcyclists. It was so dense that no one can even move. Myself, along with so many other peaceful citizens were the victims, helplessly seeing our hard earned money, mobile phones and other belongings being taken away at gun point. The point is, the protest was going on since over an hour and the New Town police station is less than half a kilometer away, but no one bothered to reach the scene to ease the situation.
These looting scenes are occurring all over the city, esp. wherever there are traffic jams. This was the 4th time I was looted at gunpoint, and every second Karachiite, if not all, have experienced such incidents. Why is our police not pro-active enough to prevent such incidents? My heart bleeds whenever I see a caravan of police mobiles escorting any green number plated car and the peaceful citizens are totally helpless.
Allah hamaray mulk ki hifazat kre!
