Car xperts...help me win my bet

hey guys...i've made a bet with 2 of my frends that close ratio gears in a car give better accelration than high ratio gears...now tell me am i right or wrong...plz also xplain the reason as i know nothing about cars ...thanx (Y)

The smaller the gear ratio ... the faster the acceleration. Small gear ratios also reduces top speed. This is why we have 6spd manual in sports car as they have short gear ratios but the final gears hav very long ratios to hit the top speeds but all lower hav small ratios so you get quick acceleration.

To explain it 'simply' ... its like ... the first gear can go to 80 for example ... this means that when you reach your maximum power for that gear (with your RPMs maxxing out and delivering max power) you are targetting to reach 80km/h.

When the gear ratio is shorter, for example 1st gear till 60km/h ... you have the same power available ... but a LOWER target speed ... hence you reach that speed faster.

first learn to drive a little car like mehran for 2 years, maintain it, fix it, learn on it. and improve driving habits..you will bang it a few times, - that's natural for all

we all try to improve on our driving everytime we drive.

if u say you know nothing about cars, you dont know nothing about handling too,, gears dont handle car

i know enuff about the gears..coz i dont think there is a difference between gears of bike and cars...is there...and i've learned on bikes the closer the ratio of gears ...the greater the accelration...so i thought same would apply on a car...
