Assalaam-O-Alaikum,
I am from Karachi and this is my story of getting a bike for myself.
I wanted a bike for myself with 3 or 4 wheels. I am suffering from epidermolysis bullosa, which is a rare skin disease. I am not disabled in any other way. Its just my skin is more sensitive than normal people and is prone to infections and scratches. For details, Google.
Since I have both feet and hands and I have only skin problem, I did not want my bike to look like a complete disabled person vehicle. Therefore my choices were either to get a sand buggy or ATV for myself or get myself a brand new motorcycle and add two rear wheels.
I searched on PakWheels and on internet and I couldn't get what I was looking for.
First and foremost, I figured out through internet/PakWheels that there is Akber market from where people buy their motorcycles. I went to Akber market to search the motorcycle or sand buggy and I was really very disappointed because i couldn't find any motorcycle with three wheels. A guy from Akber market guided me to a mechanic whose name is Jaggu Ustaad. By the looks of his shop or garage, I figured, he only deals in disabled bikes or bike with three wheels and he makes them himself. I asked him for the price of one 3 wheeler, he told me the price was 75000rs and the price is non negotiable. I searched Akber market also for sand buggy I found three sand buggies in the whole Akber market. All of them were extremely used. The first I found was of 20k, I think. And the other two I found at Jaggu Ustaad's place. They were in a very bad condition and he was asking 25k and 45k for them, I think.
When I couldn't find anything of my choice I went to Gul Plaza. A guy from Akber market told me to go there for sand buggies. Since I have a shop of toys myself, I know a lot of people at Gul Plaza. I went to Gul Plaza and straight away I went to the toys dealer whom I do business with for guidance. He told me that he doesn't deal in sand buggies but he got someone 3 sand buggies for 135,000rs and after sale was done, he got very bad feedback from his customer and each sand buddy he sold, had some problems. He also told me that everyone is buying used stuff from China and they assemble them here and nobody is selling new sand buggies. In the end he told me 3 shops at gul plaza from where I can get sand buggies.
The first shop I went to, was asking 65000rs for the 110cc sand buggy. When I told him that I also have a toy store then he lowered the price to 49000rs. The second shop was 65000 and his final price was 63000rs I think. He claimed that he import sand buggies by himself and he doesn't sell reconditioned stuff like rest of the market. The 3rd shop was like a workshop. He said that all the sand buggies available in the market are reconditioned. By looking at the condition of his sand buggies one can clearly say that all of those ATVs available on his shops were reconditioned and he himself made them.
After the trip to both Akber market and Gul Plaza, I decided that buying a sand buggy will be a waste of money. Therefore I decided to buy a motorcycle and add 2 rear wheels.
Before buying a motorcycle I went to Aurangzaib market and found out that all the motorcycle parts were available there. There, I talked to javed ustaad and babbu ustaad for the rear wheels and they quoted the price of 12000rs and 11000 rs respectively. Jawed ustaad was saying that the he would do the job in 2 days.
I visited some more places. I also went to Patel Para. There I found a rickshaw market. I was thinking that I could make my motorcycle like motorcycle rickshaw. But, I couldn't find anything of my interest. People told me to go to Filmistan which is near Lasbela Chowk but I couldn't go there. I found a 3 wheeler bike standing in one of the streets of Patel Para. I waited for the owner of that bike to come. He was a handicap person. I asked him from where had he made his bike. If I remember correctly, he told me that Jaggu Ustaad (whom I visited earlier at Akber road) had made his bike. He also recommended me some guy at ranchore line, whose name I have forgotten.
Finally after convincing my mother, I went to Akbar market with my cousin and after searching many shops, I bought Unique motorcycle ud70 from Sharif Brothers. I again went to jaggu ustaad and he asked 15000rs for adding two rear wheels on my motorcycle and said it will take 3 days.
After buying a motorcycle, the next task ahead was to make it a three wheeler. I went to ranchor line and there after asking some shopkeepers, I was suggested Ishaq Autos. I went to his shop and he showed me some photographs of 3 wheelers which he had made and asked 12000rs for the whole package and said it will take only a day to complete this job. For the same job jaggu ustaad was asking for 3 days and Jawed ustaad for 2 days. I agreed straightaway and paid him advance 2000rs and he asked me to bring my bike the next day and he will do the job within 4 hours.
Today on 6th of November I took my bike to Ishaq Autos. He completed the job in 4 hours. I am very happy with his work. Alhamdulillah, I have finally a ride of my own. Can't express my feelings in words.
Thanks to PakWheels, I learnt a lot from you guys. I am making this thread because I couldn't find much information/help regarding my project. If anyone have any questions/suggestions, do post here.
Enjoy Pics.
Say Masha'Allah please.
