Actually Golf which is the best selling car for VW for decades have different trim levels. In Europe its available with different engine displacement like 1.4 TSI , not sure exactly. In North America VW have altogether different trims and engine displacement.
Golf R32 and Golf GTI are are the sporty versions of the actual golf. in USA R32 was available till 2008 year and after that it was never released. Though VW released a Fahrenheit version (2008/2009) which were only produced 4000 for US market ( orange in color).
Golf GTI is produced for many years and the currently available is MK6 which was released in 2010 as altogether a new shape, new dynamics, lowered and much improved engine. R32 is actually a name due to fact that its a V6 3.2 liter engine. There was a Golf GTI VR6, which is actualy an older model of R32 but at that time it was known as VR6 and not R32. No turbo but 4 motion ( all wheel drive). After year 2006 all GTI ( except R32 as i mentioned) have 2.0 L turbo engine (200hp). from 2006 to late 2008 there was an FSI engine but then later on they switched to newer version engine knows as 2.0 TSI.
Currently there is as such no new R32 but in 2012 Golf R is released but with 2.0 litre (256HP)..
