Asalamalaykum and Hello to Everyone,
New member and new arrival from abroad now living here permanently with family (LHR DHA).
What an interesting country to live in to say the least
Anyway,
Needed a car. Previous cars were all revving BMW M Powered models and 4 W124 Mercedes. Unfortunately, cannot bring those cars here! Would be extremely nice if we could though, let's hope that changes one day!
Drove a new Corolla. Nice car. Could be better but .... everyone's got one! They are everywhere.
Reborn - couldn't find a TypeR Getting difficult to find a nice one as not many people cherish them like a sports car.
Honda CL9 - gearbox issues on all the ones I test drove and not enough Euro-R's
Mark X - Test drove a very nice example in DHA. Yeah, nice family car. Amazing engine and suspension. Not exciting though.
Started to run out of ideas at this point... that horrible feeling started settling in my stomach that I wasn't going to find a car I like unless I spent north of 60 Lachs for something like a Porsche and quite frankly I don't feel like getting kidnapped any time soon!
Nissan 350Z - mostly not very nice examples at the time but a really capable machine, excellent intact for the money you pay for it.
A few conversations were had between my cousin and I and he mentioned ... RX8....
NO
ROTARY WANKEL
BLOWS UP
WEIRD DOORS
4 SEATS
NONSENSE CAR... What were Mazda thinking!
Then, started getting emails from pakwheels. This RX8, that RX8.
NO
Its got a naff engine and I don't like rebuilding engines on a daily driver.
Started seeing them. Did some research and then went into it quite a lot.
Turns out the engines are actually fine. The stories are all mainly where the fuel quality is extremely poor (USA 87 Octane, Pakistan 95 Special Kerosin Mix, etc)
Car was never designed to run on this low octane and subsequently not enough people know what knock sounds like on a rotary and they ignore it as some 'other' mechanical noise.
Seals blow
New Engine Please Sir
People use the wrong oil on them again killing the seals and losing massive compression.
Mazda were themselves to blame.
Run the thing on high octane, change the oil every 3-5000km, warm it up properly and drive it hard and visit 9000rpm every day.
Understanding engines and mechanicals of automobiles was something of a full time occupation previously so made the decision and said .... OK.. let's see what we find. Probably all engines with blown or weak compression motors.
And then guess what....
One turns up. Velocity Red, 18 inch Alloys, 35,000 km and a UK car with the service records to back up the mileage.
It's got xenon headlights as standard and heated seats. It even has a sunglasses case built in. Car was brand new inside. Exterior could have been taken better care of but this stuff happens in this country. A give away sign it was a UK car was the lightly kerned alloys and minor few door dings (dry push out job). Paint work - very people know how to take care of paint. Car wash galore swirl marks. I can fix that with my machine and cutting/polishes.
3 months I have owned it now, changed the oil 3 times, pushed it to it's limits with lots of ring road and DHA driving especially Sunday mornings
I am sure I have bumped into some people on the forum, seen some nice cars.
Better stop there. See attached image, will upload later. Thanks for reading.
