went today to do the final inspection before the paint is applied. All the channels are present & clear and all the little seams that are supposed to be ther eare also present,.. i'm very happy with this painter. he has sprayued a medium brown base coat on it before the final L-272 goes on but i have decided to use a simple black paint for the floors and inside the fenders (can be patch sprayed easily at a later date since these parts will take alot of abuse since this is an off-roader.

the pictures don't do it justice, in rea life the colour (pretty close to the one i'm going to use as the final coat) was really nice, can't wait till i start the mechanical work.

i think it'll be roadworthy as soon as it starts getting colder which is perfet for a cabrio.

indeed the black one looks good ut it is VERY impractical to try and build one of these in PK since you;d neeed a much more powerful engine AND very specialized parts which would cost alot. the green one is worth a fortune since it is all original and infact it is standing in a museum.

i'm trying to build something which will do justice to the original without trying to be something it isn't (afterall it is 2x4, not 4x4).

getting the ride height fine tuned will take some time. sadly i'll have to run the silly 15 inch alloy wheels on this since i cannot find good offroad tyres in 14 inch (original 182 steel wheel size).

The Thing is looking very cool. The flat/dull finish is a very good idea. I dont think anyone has done that in the country before.

There is not one but two Things being done up in Karachi with Basit the denter. I would try to arrange some papparazi shots soon!

ASAD!!! good to have you here, and glad you liked the colour choice. you;'d love this new painter, he was insane when it came to attention to detail,.. specially the little seams, they are all there and nothing has been filled in with "puteen".

as far as i know this is the first one with matte L272 but i know very soon someone is going to copy it like they copied my 1303s colour. would love to see the KHI vehicles as well as get in touch with the owners. so little is known about these cars in PK that it would be nice to be able to share some info with them (both ways).

any info you may have on the 181/182 would be greatly appreciated since i don't have the manuals yet (next trip to the UK is going to be VERY expensive:()

  A new discovery in suitable workforce is always welcome. We are lucky to discover such a person who does not need to be bamboozled at each stage to NOT cut corners like the overwhelming majority. Hope this guy gets more business which he should if people see cars finished by him.

 The pair of Things is owned by Mr. Faisal who is a friend of Safeershah. I havent seen faisal post on forums ever but I do hope he joins us soon. Would give him an invitation once I meet him or get his number.

the one you are talking about is one of 3 similar cars about to undergo work as well as my friends 68 1500cc deluxe type 1,... i've really got my havnds full at the moment since i'm aslo doing a W123 merc AND am about to embark on a hilux offorader. 2009 has been good to me so far.
