Today I got a first class mail in my mailbox. It was from Toyota and is issued under Federal act under jurisdiction of NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration). Back in 2005, I had a used Toyota Sienna for a very brief period of time I think for 2 months only.
Toyota has to send letter to all those addresses where the same vehicle and other effected by recall in question remained as per registration documentation on record. There are very strict guidelines even about the envelope. How the text should appear, what to appear, what size envelope and FIRST CLASS MAIL should be used. The recall should reflect everything about the issue in question. I am attaching the recall notice how it looks like.
NHTSA was established by the Highway Safety Act of 1970 and is dedicated to achieving the highest standards of excellence in motor vehicle and highway safety. It works daily to help prevent crashes and their attendant costs, both human and financial. NHTSA Governs all vehicle related safety ratings, crash testing, recalls, odometer, safety related defects, other on the road and highway safety requirements, as well as works for controlling automotive thefts by implementing and maintaining VINS. - NHTSA is responsible for reducing deaths, injuries and economic losses resulting from motor vehicle crashes. This is accomplished by setting and enforcing safety performance standards for motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment, and through grants to state and local governments to enable them to conduct effective local highway safety programs.
- NHTSA investigates safety defects in motor vehicles, sets and enforces fuel economy standards, helps states and local communities reduce the threat of drunk drivers, promotes the use of safety belts, child safety seats and air bags, investigates odometer fraud, establishes and enforces vehicle anti-theft regulations and provides consumer information on motor vehicle safety topics.
- NHTSA also conducts research on driver behavior and traffic safety, to develop the most efficient and effective means of bringing about safety improvements.
Below is the letter giving details about the problem and next mode of action.
