yeah, the cheap guitars seem fine...
although there's a few things you should check before buying. You should check for any frets buzzing (play all frets on all strings and see if any of them buzz). this is important since if I'm not wrong, on most acoustic/semis the action is not adjustable. So if it buzzes, it buzzes for ever, you can't change that.
Play a chord and try to move the guitar a litte and see if the pitch changes as you move the guitar around. if it does, it means the neck/body joint is not strong enough to keep it steady. Its not that big a problem, but you should buy the one that doesn't have this problem, Since if the neck keeps getting loose, you may get buzzing, which is bad.
Now there's 2 most common shapes, one has a little "cavity" on the lower side for easier access to the higher frets. I like this design, don't know if its better....
