I wish new entrants would choose more interesting and exciting cars to import as reduced-duty units. If the point is to show off their brand and technology then why not go for the best that they produce.
For example Kia should have gone for something like the Stinger which which would’ve been outside the budget of most but some enthusiasts wouldve still bought it coz none of the germans offer such a powerful engine under a crore rupees.
Also hyundai should go for something like the K900 which I feel would create a lot of buzz for the company. Its not a mass-market car for Pakistan so there is no problem of running out of the 100 units but still enough people would buy it at the right price. (People who buy Toyota Crown for example).
Such a vehichle would help Hyundai establish an image as a premium, upmarket manufacturer and that image can then help its smaller cars later.
Instead I think they are using the 100 vehicle allowance to make a point about their pricing etc which is useless because theyll be selling locally produced units and the price of CBUs right now has nothing to do with it.
