Just got back from Naran yesterday 3rd July after 3 day trip with family on my Honda City. We went to Babusar top from Naran on my car. Generally road condition is ok except at:
1. Batakundi where the bridge over the water stream is hazardous for cars with not enough road clearance. My car was hit from the bottom both times but with a bit of maneuvering you can avoid the bumps.
2. two glaciers where the road is non-existent and even rollas can't avoid being hit from the bottom
3. Road is under construction by FWO between Jalkhad and Babusar top but its far better than the the above areas....
Lake Saifulmalook;
Took a jeep to the lake but due to a glacier which was being cleared on 2nd July, we had to hire two jeeps....one from Naran to glacier, cross the glacier (About 20-25meters) and then hire another one (total paid Rs. 3000 for the complete round trip). If the road was clear, the entire trip had not cost me more than 1500 - 1800 Rs. Remember, its jeepable track only.
I went to a local mechanic in Kaghan (as I was staying there) and got my car's bottom inspected by him as well as visual inspection by myself, all I could see were some bruises and scratches (may be 2 or 3) on the under-body of my car but not any damage to even engine shield or silencer pipe.
Overall road from Islamabad to Naran itself isn't bad but it has deteriorated since 2013. Road between Abbotabad and Mansehra is still under construction since many years. Mansehra Bypass has got many potholes since my last visit and so is first 15 kilomters after Mansehra towards Balakot. From Balakot to Kaghan road is generally very nice except a few places where they did just some patchwork (instead of proper repair and restoration) due to landsliding. From Kaghan to Naran, road is actually better than my previous experience especially a section of road just before the entrance to Naran is not built. However, just be careful while crossing the glaciers as you may not be able to see any potholes due to water flowing over road.
