Canon and Nikon both have entry level DSLRs, and they are fine cameras. I went for this one because I dont buy things very often
+1, if you able to find such deals it will be better!
Kids are great motives indeed
D90 is old; D5100 is new and is considered better. Take a look at https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/non-wheels-discussions/171094-my-new-purchase-nikon-d5100-a
Nikon are great cameras. I am in no position to pass any judgement which is better. I personally liked 600D more!
d90 is pretty old model to be compared to the 600d
While kids were doing their home work; I made a simple flash diffuser using an A4 sheet! First the result!
With Built-in Flash
With "Flash Diffuser"
The required things
The plan
sir why u doing such complications ..? a dslr is not enough .. to turn you hard
The built-in crappy flash was giving very cheap point and shoot like results. While sitting with kids; seeing all the stuff readily available, couldnt resist. It hardly took 2-3 mins and I think it came out fine. Instead of that bright direct light of Flash; light was uniformed. I will try getting a proper flash insha-Allah soon after Eid. Canon's 320EX is 20k and Canon's 430 EX II is 26k :-#
Instead of the box; you can simply try it out by placing the plain paper in front of the flash. For more fun; you can try colored papers and different angles.

Can I get the Olympus / Zuiko OM lens to Canon EOS Adapter? I have a beautiful 50mm/f1.4 Zuiko OM lens lying uselessly; it used to give great bokeh! If adapter is cheap and easily available; want to try it before buying Canon's 50mm/1.8!
From http://slrlensreview.com/web/olympus-slr-lenses-50/standard-slr-lenses-145/391-olympus-om-zuiko-50mm-f14-lens-review.html
On an APS-C camera, the lens has field of view similar to that of a 80mm lens on a full-frame body. To use the lens on a Canon EOS body I used a generic, non AF-chipped Fotodiox Olympus OM to EOS adapter. you will end up operating the camera in manual or aperture priority modes with all but center weighted metering disabled While performance at f/1.4 is not necessarily the most impressive, overall image quality, build quality and price are. In this regard, Olympus Zuiko OM 50mm f/1.4 can be considered to be one of the best (quality lens) bargains among 50mm primes. Of course this assumed that you are willing to use a fully manual lens.

Last night played a bit with Lightroom...Its a great tool; I need to expand my vacabulary about photography to utilize the tool in its full. Sharing the first experiment...

Whats the recommended way to shoot the moon? I tried few things but they didnt worked and then clouds covered the moon :-#
For the moon shots. Zoom the lens to the full and lessen the EV
600D got the digital zoom feature in video; I recorded the moon /w digital zoom @ 135mm; andwas able to get close to the moon to much extent...file size is "huge" I forgot to set the movie size properly. Tomorrow, I will record the movie again insha-Allah!
For the moon, Use Manual settings.ISO 800No FlashShutter will go slow at 2 seconds or so.And Yes, adjust focal point to center only.check image below, cought on 13th August night.
this is what i did to capture the moon:Shutter Speed: 1/20 sec.F-number: F/5.0Optical zoom: 15xISO 80

Canon 50mm/f1.8 II is 9500; someone from neighbourhood approached saying he will sell his 50mm/f1.4 for 25000. (a) Should I pursue this offer? Anyone using it? (b) How to test the "used lens"? (Other than obvious physical inspection)
I basically want to improve my indoor / low-light (normal fluorescent) portrait photography. What will be more helpful? (i) Canon 430EX II Flash for ~26k (ii) 50mm/f1.8 for ~10k (iii) 50mm/f1.4 for 25k "used" or (iv) Flash + 50/1.8 for ~35k
Option (ii) will be the best. Not much money spent with a great large aperture prime.
i have the 50mm.1.8 and i think its a gr8 lens .. very less noise... but i heard some place that the 1.4 is not very good from 1.8-1.4 range......
