Like for musical prowess, there is definately an element of riaz involved in desert racing, and it cannot be over emphasized. Nevertheless, at high speeds suspension demands increase exponentially as even small surface irregularities invoke big reactions for the suspension, and riaz aside cash sunk in shocks and springs counts! For what it was, I think on long stretches the Concordia would perform well wherever we could overcome the lack of riaz (read: balls for some) and motivation. So by way of hard arguments, here is a comparison against the Evo GoPro footage courtesy of Qasim Saidhi where both cars are perhaps doing ~130/140 kmph:

Best viewed full screen at 1080 HD. The video is from the second stage, where the Evo starts a few seconds behind the Concordia and by the end overtakes it. Overall, yes clips are selective and not fully representative as I am sure that the Evo had a bit more juice to give, but as far as we were concerned this was the absolute fastest we dared go given the situation. Do remember that the amazing GoPro image stabilisation goes the extra mile in making us feel that the Evo is running on the M2, while the high mounted Concordia chinky cam feels like the view from atop a Bedford truck...
And BTW anyone before makes fun of the music, please do respect the fact that its a recording from 1948 and there is a lot more to it than your ears can digest on first listening.... trust me on the music, if not on the racing
