There is an article in Dawn today about the consumer being on the wrong side of the stick because of high duties etc on import of cars, both new and reconditioned. Protectionism, at times in the name of patriotism, serves the corrupt and incompetents very well.
I am in the market for a car as well - but just dont want to waste my money on a new car in the 7 lac range since these local companies need to be shut down for the coffins and crappy engines they make! And for second hand cars, people still ask the price of a brand new car for 3 year old cars!
Unfortunately Pakistan maintains the culture of allowing a few big wigs duty free cars, not even getting into the "gifting" of cygnus's and parado's for chai pani. Perhaps when and if this country sees true democracy, we will be able to voice and channel our concerns to have the industry get it act together!
