I do understand how a CVT works, varying diameters of two pulleys, which simulates the gear sprocket size changing when we change gears. Can you please elaborate this part 'shuttle the variator for maximum acceleration and economy too.'
So what I can assess from your statement is that i own a non-CVT transmission?
I experience something like this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2EHlk1LaQ4, but the gears shifts are more since I am not always accelerating hard, while cruising at 80 kph i have rpms around 2-2.5k
